I have two DVD-RW drives on IDE cables in my primary system. One is Master, one is Slave. everything was working fine for a while, then nothing. I can't read or write to or from either... Any thoughts?

I would suggest trying them one at a time and obviously make sure the drive is set to master. Take one out and just try the first one. See if it works. Then repeat for the second one. Does Windows (or the BIOS for that matter) recognize either drive?

Neither work when set as Master and the other is disconnected. I just breezed through the startup, forgot to check, Guinness fog... I guess I could also try a different IDE cable as well.

It's very unlikely that they both failed at the same time.

Have you installed or uninstalled any software, particularly CD/DVD burning apps?

Do you have XP? I heard there was a rare bug in a recent update that makes your optical drives inoperable, but you can still see them in my computer.

Yeah the next step would be to check and see if they are recognized in the BIOS and/or Windows.

Like you said earlier, try a different IDE cable.
