I was recently looking at the new FX 8370 processors and wondering if they would be a better choice vs me buying a I5-4670/90k. The FX processor is for sure cheaper but will it run faster than an I5?

Depends on what you are running it against? In terms of single threaded applications and gaming the Intel is going to walk the AMD; but in heavily multi threaded applications (few and far between) then the AMD will have the edge due to it having a lot more cores.

Clock for clock the Intel is faster. It's IPC is superior to AMDs.

Then that processor was already suggested to you. The Intel i5.

Same as everyone else recommended - for general applications that use only one thread, go Intel; for multiple threads where speeds need to be high, go Intel as well. The extra money spent on an i5 CPU will be appreciated in future games.

Intel!

i7-4790K if you got some bones around you want to burn.

i5-4690K if not.

it comes down to price as well, for general usage and light gaming, an AMD will be fine for most people, they wont notice the difference.

But intel runs faster, cooler and less power.. but costs a bit more..

I would say that the only reason the new AMD processors are reliant is if you already have an AM3 board and need an upgrade chip without having to buy a new motherboard. There are other uses where the AMD chip is valuable, such as virtualization and non gaming stuff as Intel locks a lot of the goodies out of their K chips, but gaming is really best on Intel chips right now. If you have a Microcenter around don't forget about the $40 off mobo cpu discount :)

I've been interested in AMD and have used them in a few builds, they don't seem to retain value as well as Intel and I've had more issues but if cost is major factor then I'd say they're worth a try.

Cost isn't a factor when the OP can get a better Intel processor with his budget.
