I am thinking about upgrading my processor, and I heard that the Operton 185 Denmark is the best I can get for my 939 motherboard.

What kind of performance increase can I expect to get from this processor, and is this worth it in the long run?

Here is my current setup:

DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 SLI-DR
AMD San Diego 3700+
eVGA GF 6800GT
2x 1GB OCZ Platinum PC3200
WD Raptor 74GB
Creative SB X-Fi

I replaced an AMD 4000 CPU with this Opteron and am extremely impressed. I had doubts about spending more $xxx on my socket 939 system. I have it running at stock voltage FSB @220x12 at 3GHz. Dual prime 95 stable. Very stable processor with an excellent memory controller. Air cooling on a DFI lanparty board 2 gig OCZ memory. My old CPU was running at 2.7 Mhz. This Opteron has 2 cores running faster. I can run any / all apps and have zero slow down.

A year ago this CPU was over a grand. Now it's a tad over $300. A server grade CPU for $300.

Cabroker, I am also looking at this proc as a final 939 upgrade. How long ago did you pick this 185 up?

185 is same as the FX-60 IIRC. I think the highest end ones like the FX-60 and 185 will hold their value the longest. I just sold a 3200+ AXP for $150 (more than I paid for it) simply because it was the highest end CPU on a dead platform. If you can get a good deal on one, I'd pick it up. Pretty decent upgrade and should maintain decent value.
