...Codemasters has formally announced the next game in the Operation Flashpoint series.

Set in the near future in the hostile wastes of Tajikistan, Operation Flashpoint: Red River will essentially be an enhanced version of OFP: Dragon Rising, offering players 'a deeper narrative-led campaign, streamlined inventory and control system, a refined enemy and squad AI system, player class roles including customisable XP upgrades and loadout choice, close-quarters combat, new air support options and comprehensive tutorials.'

Creative director Sion Lenton is quite proud of his creation, and hopes Red River will win over military shooter fans with its enhanced options for co-op play.

"Operation Flashpoint: Red River is being built around four player co-op online play, complete with a strong narrative, new enemies and combat scenarios to deliver gameplay that immerses players in the reality of war like never before. The new setting of Tajikistan is a diverse and exciting backdrop for the wide range of military challenges the US Marines face around the world in real life. We’re excited to push the series in new directions while staying true to the core tactical combat that is the hallmark of Operation Flashpoint."

Likewise, executive producer Adam Parsons would like to stress that all the complaints gamers made about Dragon Rising have been taken on board, and that OFP:RR will iron out the kinks.

"In creating Operation Flashpoint: Red River, we’re building on our strengths whilst taking on board feedback from the community and focussing on key areas and enhancements to further refine the Flashpoint experience."

Operation Flashpoint: Red River will go on sale next year for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Nice, I was probably part of the minority, but I actually liked OF:DR, had a few game crippling bugs come at me, but unlike some pansys, i won't let that kill my gaming experience, it was hours of fun playing the co-op with my buddy at like 2-3 in the morning while drinking, trying not to both die.

No sale.

The last OF game they put out was decent and I liked it well enough but it was a glitchy mess and there was no follow through or support. A robust patch would have saved that game and put it over the top IMO.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Not going to happen.

The only way I'll change my mind is if I see a slew of positive feedback from review outlets and gamers alike.

And then patches to fix the bugs that are there even with glowing feedback.

And then a Steam sale to make it a small fraction of the release price.

Considering the fact that Dragon Rising was a buggy piece of shit, and they stopped supporting it after two DLCs and never fixed half the issues with the game...No sale.

If you want a true OFP successor, ArmA2/Operation Arrowhead is the way to go.

Yeah, that Dragon Rising game was simply too buggy and the graphics sucked. Hard to see what I was shooting at out abouts 300m, let alone see the target.

Better off with ArmA II.

I got DR for $5 back in the Steam summer sales, haven't tried it yet. I think it'll be safe to say that this one will just be further dumbed down to appeal to the COD-fans.
