only a question here about newegg

i called newegg.
conversation took about 2 minutes total.
they are sending me a new drive and will require signature on this one.
they also made a note in my account for all future shipments to require signature.

they are also sending me an email to confirm a new drive is being sent.

i will be happy when i get a confirmation email about all this.

to all of you that answered, i thank you. seriously. thanks alot.
when i get a confirmation email i'll post an update.

Sounds like you have an overly laxed UPS driver and a paranoid Fedex driver :) Next time your fedex driver comes to the door, speak to him/her. You can also sign a release claim that they will deliver packages to your door if you are not there.

Naw, since the distribution centers are like two miles away, I'd rather spend 15-20 minutes picking up my package(s) than go through the hassle of claiming something was stolen. Waiting for a package to come is the worst part. I'd be happy to go a little out of my way knowing the package is safe than to prolong getting that sweet computer component in my hands :D

Wait, you didn't call UPS, or what did they say? Sounds like a good scam. Package arrives. Tell newegg it didn't, get a second one free! :D

I seriously hope you called UPS first. It'd be a pretty shitty thing to do to NewEgg if you didn't.

never bite the hand that feeds you.
newegg has been treating me well for years the last thing i would do is sh*t on them excuse the language. my morals wouldnt allow it.
plus, people who scam dont just scam once. they do it all the time and are bound to get caught.
i love newegg. i just want my damn drive
no i didnt call UPS

Here's the real deal on FedEx/UPS leaving packages (from me, a logistics manager who spends boohoodles of money with each:

1. This before anything else: it is often driver discretion, depending on your neighborhood, if they will leave without a signature.

2. You can call the either UPS/FedEx and ask who signed for the package. If they can read the sig, they must tell you.

3. Technically, all home deliveries require signature from recepient, UPS/FedEx/DHL doesn't matter.

4. You can leave a note requesting they leave the package if you are not available to sign and they will honor that most of the time.

Also, the shipper, i.e Newegg in this case, can request all their shipment must be signed for before release. The carrier must honor that request and if not, they are liable for the loss.

Any other questions?

I'm sure. If a driver leaves a package without an in-person signature, the driver is responsible for it. I've been told this directly by UPS and by a friend who was a UPS driver a couple years back.

I believe the idea is that this prevents a UPS driver from either simply going home with packages or dumping them off to an accomplice.

This sounds extremely unlikely. By default, most shipments do not require a signature. Holding the driver responsibile for not getting a signature for a package that doesn't require one makes no sense at all.

OTOH, if the package required a signature and they dropped it off and didn't get one, then they'd be responsible, more than likely. But even then, I suspect, insurance would foot the bill if it was insured....if not, the shipper would get $100.00 back and be hosed on the delta.

how so? i dont understand?
was i wrong for calling newegg?
aw damn now i feel like crap

The advice was that it isn't NewEgg's fault you didn't get the drive, it's UPS's. They're the ones that should be getting you a new drive. Or finding out where your's is.

But I'm gald that NewEgg would do that, a nice end to a crappy situation.

I didn't mean that you were scamming. I just joked that it'd be a good one.

It appears that you never fully understood that Newegg did not deliver the package, and that UPS is responsible. It is not Newegg's fault whatsoever that your package is missing. They should be who you call second, depending on what UPS says. They shouldn't have to send you a second hard drive, no questions asked. And if they agree to, UPS should probably reimburse at least.

Newegg rocks though.

Call UPS and ask. I've talked to at least two UPS drivers who have confirmed this to me. If they leave a package out in public and it gets stolen, it's the driver's responsibility. UPS claims over and over that leaving a package is completely at the driver's discretion. UPS doesn't care, because UPS isn't the one who pays for stolen items.

Why haven't you called UPS yet? Get on the phone already.

Even though the thread starter never bothered contacting UPS, shouldn't Newegg investigate what happened to their package that they had UPS deliver?

I bought a printer from Amazon last month and was shipped via UPS. I now live in a house. The package was technically delivered on Fri., but I don't use my main entrance since I enter and leave through the garage. On Mon., I decided to track the package and found out it was indeed delivered on Fri. So I went home that night and sure enough, a box that said "HP all-in-one" was sitting out there in the cold for the entire weekend. I'm in a new construction area, so good thing no construction workers trespassed my yard and took it. :)

Also, a few years ago, when I lived in an apt., I had my college ring redone. I shipped it securely to them and a few weeks later, they shipped it back via FedEx in a small box. I got home and the box was sitting right outside my front door. Good thing no one knew that a ~$1k piece of jewelry was inside it!

No.

They hand it off to UPS and from that point on Newegg is done with its obligation. All responsibility is on UPS until the recipient receives the package.

It was just a sata drive? ...

I had FedEx say I signed for an item when I didn't...and it was one of my 37'' Westinghouse's. They decided to sign for me and leave it outside my house(granted it was on the side of the house, but still can be seen...) I checked the online tracking info that day at work to see when the 37'' beauty would arrive and it said "Delivered and Signed for by: b Sherrill" I was like WTF!!, nobody is at my house?. So I had to leave work to see if it actually was at my house, and it took me awhile to notice it was on the side of my house.

And it said "Westinghouse 37'' 1080p Monitor" on the box all over...lol tell me if someone saw that, they wouldn't want it...

why this kind of stuff dont happens to me? I will have 2 instead of one for sure , ill be calling ups asking about my delivery ofcourse saying i havent recive anythinggg
and btw FEDEX does that too

Precisely why you call UPS first, then Newegg. Don't bog down Newegg and make them investigate. Do your own legwork. See what UPS says and inform Newegg so they can deal accordingly.

Technically, yes. Newegg is not responsible, but they're also concerned about customer satisfaction.

Becuase your saying you would scam them...Thats why it shouldn't happen to you.

My UPS guy said they are legally allowed to leave packages (at door or at neighbor's) if it doesn't require a signature and it's not electronic equipment (i.e. clothing, food, etc).

Your typing hurts.

And if you scam Newegg, may defective hard drives rain upon your face.

Whoops!

But how does UPS know what's in the packages it gets?

Technically you are supposed to disclose the items in the package. It was a more recent law, I believe it was the Patriot Act or something like that which enforced it.

I'm also sure if you get something from JR Electronics or something like that it would be an electronic item :D

This isn't true. The only way to start a trace on a package is for the shipper to contact UPS. The only thing that UPS can do for the person receiving the shipment (unless the recipient paid UPS for the shipping) is provide tracking information. Thus, calling Newegg is the correct way to go.

I would agree with you IF the package was indeed lost. Calling UPS to find your misplaced package would be the first thing to do as your package might be slowed down or might be holed up somewhere.

The best thing to do is to let UPS figure out the location of the package, if they don't know, then it's a good idea to proceed to call newegg. For all you know your neighbor might have it or the UPS guy delivered it to the wrong home a couple houses down. It's usually a good idea to make the shipper eat the costs for their mistakes than the seller, as the sellers losses would be reflected by price increases or a more dramatic customer policy.

I'm having some trouble with your logic. I'm not talking about starting a trace. When a discrepency arises, you contact the company last responsible. In this case, Newegg hands a hard drive over to UPS, who is now directly responsible to get it to the customer. Newegg has no control over what happens to the package when it's no longer in their hands.

I'm not saying UPS has to dig as deeply as it can to figure out what happened. A signature was not required and the delivery was left to the driver's discretion. There isn't much anyone can do, really, except confirm the driver's actions as truthfully as possible.

Once UPS has been informed, Newegg should be contacted. You know damn well Newegg is likely to ask, "What did UPS think of this matter?" We'll have to ask Bluesmap how the two-minute conversation went.

Newegg doesn't have to do anything, but since they're awesome and care about customers, they usually do the nice thing and send another one.

How exactly is UPS responsible for Newegg not requesting a signature?

I thought if you received a package on UPS you could see if it was delivered, how and where and even see a signature(although this has nothing to do with said predicament) if you want.

Newegg could easily request a signature if they chose, this is their responsibility to pass along to UPS.

What's the point of wasting your time calling UPS if you already have all the information from UPS you need?

I would've called Newegg myself, and demanded another hard drive. I give them 100 bucks, I get a hard drive. That's customer service. Failure to provide customer service equals customers seeking another service.

Hence, Newegg is rich.

Note: this is likely also why Newegg's prices have risen beyond the good old days.

Newegg's policy likely says something about UPS delivery. You can have Newegg request a signature on deliveries, but it's not default. It's the customer's discretion. No one is saying UPS is at fault because a signature was not requested. We also haven't said UPS is at fault, per se. His package was marked as delivered on his front porch and no package is there. A few things could have happened.

It is not necessarily missing. An error could have been made. Hopefully it wasn't stolen, and hopefully the driver isn't disgruntled and took it for himself. You're focusing on the means, whereas this is about the end. Newegg did their duty as requested by the customer. UPS supposedly did their duty as well. What, are you going to say it's the recipient's fault that his package is not where UPS says it should be?

Fortunately the actual matter at hand has been resolved.

Failure to provide customer service equals customers seeking another service.

They're sending him another hard drive. Not exactly sure how that's a failure at customer service.

All of that is tracking information that's available on botht the UPS site and the newegg site (which probably just links you to UPS).

But you, the recipient are nobody. You're not UPS's customer. Newegg is UPS's customer. There is absolutely nothing that UPS will do until the shipper starts what they call a "tracer." I suspect that Fedex has a similar method. 99% of the time, the shipper is their customer, not you.

I've had packages stuck in the distribution center in Dallas for a week or more (on more than one occasion) and until the shipper contacts them to run a trace, they'll just say it will probably go out tomorrow (even though it was supposed to have arrived a day or 2 earlier).

I prefer packages to be left at my front door :) just becaue my street is nice and quiet and no one would steal anything :)

How exactly is UPS responsible for Newegg not requesting a signature?
I am glad that newegg does not request a signature or I'd never get my stuff. I understand your concern. I am sure that if you make a note when ordering from newegg, they will gladly oblige you are require a signature for delivery. The monitor that I got from the Egg required a signature to be delivered.[/QUOTE]

UPS is responsible for packages they leave sitting out in a public place instead of delivering.
Actually, UPS drivers are responsible for that.

yes and I am glad that my driver leaves my parcels.

It is actually newegg's responsibility to deal with the shipper. The fact they used ups for shipping does not remove their obligation to actually deliver you the product that was purchased. In the event of a non delivery they have to resolve issues with the shipper legally.

You can actually submit a claim if you have a problem with the shipment via ups. I had to do this recently do to receiving a empty and damaged package. Buy.com claimed the shipping weight matched from shipping to delivery basically saying I was sol. when I checked with ups I found out the only one that had ever supposedly weighed the package was buy.com and their was no record of it being weighed by ups. I eventually got them to resend me the item.

I didn't intend to suggest that Newegg was failing at customer service. I was implying that if Newegg failed to provide customer service they would lose customers, which followed after a description that Newegg determining whether or not their customer recieved the services paid for was doing.

My response was more in regards to people suggesting this guy did something wrong by calling Newegg before UPS?

Again, Newegg may ship with whomever they please. That doesn't mean you didn't pay them 100 bucks for some hard drive you never recieved... Hence calling them I would view as the appropriate reaction.

Make sense?

If UPS wasn't willing to do that then I would have to drive across town to the terminal EVERY time I get a package....I usually don't get home till after 6:00pm. If they didn't leave packages then part of the convenience of online shopping would be gone for me...why not just go to my neighborhood CC or BB instead of fighting crosstown traffic?

update:

yes. this is all my fault for two reasons:
1-- you guys said call newegg first which i didnt.
2-- its not neweggs fault for the delivery.

so. in light of that information i apologize. i would have solved my problem by LISTENING to you and callling UPS. sorry. lesson learned. (we all grow and learn from silly mistakes)

now lets continue.
-so newegg decide to ship a new drive. they apologized.
-i came here,....read some replies about how i didnt call UPS so i called UPS.
-complained and hollered in a nice way.
-finally they spoke to driver who said he left it at an imaginary address (the address number did not exist)
-neighbor had the package. they must have saw me looking around and they brought it over to my door. nice of them. it got deleivred to the neighbors next 2 houses over.

yes. good. im happy. i have the drive i originally ordered. but not good enough.
i called newegg. i apologized and explained to them what happened. they were in the process of finalizing my drive, but i said no. i said im sorry but i have the drive. i said UPS messed it up. and they said fine. and whats so crazy is that i spoke to the same lady she even remembered me just didnt remember my name but she remembered me calling and talking to her. so we cancelled that and she's happy that im happy and im happy that she/they did not waste a new drive on my mistake.

bottom line: i know i made a mistake. i did my best to fix it. i hope everyone understands. i have my drive. i want to now fill it up so i can order another one

No.

They hand it off to UPS and from that point on Newegg is done with its obligation. All responsibility is on UPS until the recipient receives the package.

But I'm saying Newegg should contact UPS on the thread starter's behalf so that UPS compensates Newegg for the damage (loss of the package).

update:

...

Just like most of us suspected: it was the UPS driver's fault. Is your house # hidden or somehow out of view from the street? If not, the driver should have his ass fired by UPS for not delivering the package properly.

Good to hear all 3 parties (you, UPS, and Newegg) are not satisfied.
