This is the most retarded thread evar !!! If you dont know which way a fan is supposed to blow then you really should just go buy a PS2 or something. Computers may be too complicated for you....lol.

Fans should always blow INTO a heatsink, unless some manufacturer creates a cooling method that benefits from the opposite.
 
Alot of you guys act as if your computer is gonna overheat if you put the fan in the other direction. Try it, it really doesn't make that big of a difference.

That depends on each persons setup. Pushing air onto heatsink or pulling it off is going to change how the airflow of the case works.
 
Even my heatsink pulls air on to the chip but what about side fans arn't they supposed to take air out or did my casse come with the fan the wrong way because air always goes out of my case on side fans 80mm never in always confuesed me :confused:
Which way are they ment to be
 
really worried ive put my fans the wrong way but how can this be the case came like that with 1 fan facing so air goes out

we are talking about heatsink fans, case fans can be all sorts of ways.

typically on a case the front fans are intake, rear ones exhaust and the side fan is intake (as to blow cool air directly over a video card or cpu) in a case it's all about creating airflow (cool air comes in from the bottom, gets heated, rises and gets exhausted from the top)

I would think this would be the biggest factor concerning which way the CPU fan should go (if you even have a side window fan). They should both be blowing in the same direction to get the best cooling solution. Wouldn't make much sense to have the window fan blowing in and the CPU fan blowing away from the mobo. The two airstreams would be colliding head on. For best cooling, one would think that a side intake and a CPU fan blowing towards the CPU would accomplish the most. You're taking room air and basically bringing it into the case and straight to the CPU (assuming the cross-draft from the front and rear fans isn't too strong) instead of pulling system ambient air (much warmer) through the heatsink. And yes, flow is much more restrictive when the air from one direction "crashes" into the heatsink rather than being pulled through it from multiple directions and would thus give you less airflow due to the restriction. But even at lower CFM, the colder air would cool the CPU better than the warmer air at higher CFM.

In my opinion(s):
-->CPU fan & Side fan blowing away from mobo will give you slightly higher CPU temps and lower system ambient temps as the hot air is directly exhausted.
-->CPU fan & Side fan blowing towards the mobo will give you slightly lower CPU temps and higher system ambient temps as the hot air is pushed in multiple direction throughout the case.
-->All in all, who frigin cares, I really don't think it'll effect enough to bicker about it this much! Get off your computer, get a part time job, and buy a better CPU cooler and you won't even need this thread! :D
-->I'm probably still wet behind the ears compared to some of you as far as computer design goes. This is just my opinion from what I've learned as a mechanical engineer so take it with a grain of salt.

PS: If you still can't figure out which way air is flowing through your fan, just check to see which side has the abundance of dust (assuming you've been running it a while). Obviously, the side covered in dust is the inlet.
