OMG, BFG, What are they doing?

check this stupid crap out, currently, BFG Tech doesn't have an option for pre-ordering just a plain NV6800 Ultra by itself...they only offer it with a water cooling block, with a fan and bundled with a PSU, or with a water cooling block bundled with a PSU...

not too bad if you also need to upgrade your PSU, or if you already have water cooling, but it's just idiotic to not also offer a "plain" 6800 Ultra with fan cooling and non-bundled....

http://www.bfgtech.com/6800.html

Sigh.. IF you would take a chance and do some searching.. you would see that they may not be "offering" it on the frontpage of their website, but other companies are offering the BFG 6800 Ultra OC solo. See http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=190436 for proof.

Also, I seriously doubt that if you were to call them, and place the order, that you would have no choice but to get the ones that offer the waterblock, or the powersupply. Please do some checking before you call a major card vendor "teh ghey?" (stupid leet speak crap).

OH, upon actually looking at the website, the waterblock (and various other options) are listed under "UPGRADE". Hmmmmmm. upgrade......

i didn't say that other companies weren't offering it solo, i said BFG wasn't...and yes, i did look at more than just their front page, spank you very much...

maybe i should have clarified and said that BFG wasn't directly offering just a plain air-cooled 6800 Ultra for pre-order :)

although that's what i was referring to when i said "pre-ordering" in my first post

and i guess i should also clarify....i have nothing against BFG's products, they are actually very good products....when i said BFG=teh ghey, i guess what i really should have said is that their marketing strategies=teh ghey, what with their only giving you the option of pre-ordering the cards with the water-cooling block directly from them, while trying to make us go to best buy to pre-order the air-cooled cards, who doesn't have the pre-order option available yet....

xXaNaXx,

It's a good question that has a quick explanation. The BFG 6800 Ultra OC "regular fan edition" has drawn significant demand from our retail partners over the past few weeks. We felt it important to give them the exclusive opportunity to launch a pre-order campaign directly to their consumers in spirit of partnership and supply without competition from our own e-commerce website.

For example, you can find the card here if you'd like:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...84643&productCategoryId=cat01151&type=product

You will see other retailers begin their pre-orders very soon as well.

Thanks,

It appears to be a mistake that Best Buy is working to correct, however, I would contact them directly to get the latest.

I'm hoping you can calm my fears of the BB ad for the BFG 6800 GT for $300 (heh, pre-ordered instantly).

Is this legit or a typo??

It almost seems too good to be true and will get lame compensation such as a coupon code or gift card

whats wrong with a free GC? give me yours if you don't want it

I think you are referring to their website as I'm not aware of any Best Buy advertisement. I would call them directly to get more information regarding your order and how they will handle it. The $299.99 appears to be a typo when you ordered it, but again, I'd check with Bestbuy.com's on-line ordering department.

Take screenshots of your orders / receipts for those that got in on time; best buy's policy says that if the preorder price is lower than the retail price that they will honor the lower of the two prices, i.e. if the preorder is $400 and the card is $300 retail they will honor the $300 and not charge $400 to you, but in this case it's the opposite. Hopefully this goes through and it won't be another 4600 fiasco.

That won't happen, it has to be both in stock and at that price at the time most places, unless you get a really uninformed CSR.

Yes, but if they are working at BB than they are pretty much guarranteed to be uninformed.

ok, now see....at least now i know why it was done the way it was done....and i understand why it was done.

but possibly an explanation on the website would have made some sense...i'm sure i'm not the only one who thought what i thought when i saw the site....especially when at the time, Best Buy was not even taking pre-orders yet.

thanks for the clarification

I took a screenshot of the actual item page after I ordered (Before it was pulled). It clearly says:
Our Price: $399.99
You Save: $100.00
Sale: $299.99

Looks like a $100 off sale to me based on what BB advertised on the item's webpage. It does not say "Our Price $299.99," it says "Our Price: $399.99, Sale: $299.99"

Aww, here you go.

That should stop the tears, you cry-baby.

what exactly does the teh part mean? I always thought that it was "the" misspelled, but your saying it's leet speak for what?

I guess kids today think it's cool to look like iliterates....

1) i am no "kid"....i will actually be 28 in 3 days.

2) i only "speeled" :D it like that for dramatic effect, i am normally one of "teh" best spellers you will come across on this board, and others.

3) does it really matter whether someone spells a freakin word properly or not, if they intended to misspell it in the first place? "the ghey" just doesn't have quite the same ring to it....

4) all i was trying to do was bring attention to the fact that BFG Tech was not offering a price or a way to pre-order the air-cooled card directly from their website, while they were offering their "upgraded" versions, and it seemed as though they were trying to force people who wanted to pre-order them NOW to buy their "upgraded" version first with the water-cooling block on it, because at the time that i saw it, Best Buy did not have the air-cooled version on their site yet available for pre-order....."teh speeling nazi's" got more bent out of shape about the way i misspelled a word instead

i think it's pretty sad that people have a lot of time on their hands, and they spend it being spelling nazi's, instead of actually taking the time to READ what the damn post is trying to tell you....if you want to critique someone's spelling, please, become a damn grade-school teacher and "speel" away.....

yes, sometimes even the spelling on boards does kinda bother me too, but i rarely EVER say anything about it, unless it is actually vital to the story being told....and i highly doubt the word "teh" was vital to my story :p

No dude, I don't pick apart spelling errors. I spell enough shit wrong myself. I do think "leet speak" and "ebonics" are lame. I could give a shit less if people spell crap wrong, since most are typing these posts up while doing other things at the same time, etc. But to intentionaly spell crap wrong which is what leet speak is, makes the poster seem imature.

I guess you feel upset that several people pointed out your short sightedness with your post to begin with, which one was from BFG itself. Nothing like make a post trying to stir up some negative crap and have it thrown back in your face. Maybe you have too much time on your hands like you claim I have.

Just for everyone's information, there is a software program that adds a spellchecker to IE that is free at www.iespell.com, if that kind of thing concerns you.

Back onto the topic at hand.......

After calling into Best Buy yesterday and being told that I could pay for the pre-order in person (I got the number from the Contact Us portion of the website) I waltzed into my local store to preorder the BFG 6800Ultra. After performing an exhaustive search into their pre-order system they could not find the 6800 Ultra, or any other 6800 cards. I was told by the person that performed the search that the 6800 cards were not coming out until the middle of the 4th quarter.... I let him know that everywhere I could find online says the end of this month and that I talked to the person over the phone .... yada yada yada.

Did you know: (sportscenter music here) Best Buy and Best Buy.com are 2 different companies. When you buy something off of bb.com and do a local pickup, the local bb does not make any money off of the purchase. bb.com simply replaces the stock on hand after performing this transaction.

I was minutely amused by the fact that I could pre-order a Ti-4600 from thier system... Some poor bastard has been waiting for that order to come in for like 3 years now.

exactly...when i made this post, i was at work and doing other things.

and don't even get started about "you shouldn't be posting while at work"....it was done during the free time that i had in between doing other things...i take calls and do email tech support/billing issues for our Wifi customers as they come in

i'm not mad in the least, i actually find it helpful and appreciate it when someone sets the record straight....if you had actually READ this thread, you would see that i recognized why BFG did what they did, and thanked sherkelman for the clarification......

and i was NOT trying to stir up negative crap, man.....again, i was just trying to bring to everyone's attention what i thought (at the time) to be somewhat "shady" business practices.....but again, i have already recognized that i was wrong and thanked our resident BFG representative for correcting me
