Hey, did you know that Asian kids are far more likely to own a smartphone than old white people? I know, crazy...isn't it?!?! Nielsen says their next study will prove once and for all "sky = blue" and "water = wet."

I would say old people in general...

...which is not a surprise at all.

eh... I'm an almost middle age (not quite 40) white person... I don't have a cell phone at all! And I never had a pager either dagnabbit!

That just proves that old white people are smarter than the rest of the population. Smart phones are expensive and have little value over dumb phones, in my super-opinion.

Heck I have almost attained the feat of middle aged white guy and I am more then happy to leave my cellular leash.(..yes really its just a leash) at home and to intentionally forget about it on a regular basis.
Seems like the only people that really need smart phones are the insecure ones that constantly need self justification in their lives and have to stay linked in all the time..

yeah that did seem like an awkward use of the word. For example they could have just said "usage" or "ownership" or something else

It's just priorities I guess... does seem a bit odd with stereotypes regarding cell phone ownership (wealthy people) and race based wages (white people make more money).

Of course, maybe it's just that other ethnicities place more value in being "hip".

WTF is all this racist shit against the white man? So what if we don't want a "smart" phone.
What's the next headline. "Old white men don't own cars with rims worth more than the car, even when the car was brand new."

I don't get it... why do old people need smart phones? they are home most of the time.
If I was home all the time then I would have 0 use for a smart phone... I would use my computer instead.

My razer still makes and receives phone calls just fine. Corporate america can kiss my ass as i never ever will pay $300-500 for a phone, nor will i pay $59.99 or better a month to use said phone. Since when did we all accept this to be ok? Why would I pay that much money for use, and then have the same damn company get to tell me HOW much i can use it. F that!

No shit? How many seniors do you think are still holding on to a beige box with a certain 17-year-old OS for that "internets thingy" or that "fancy electronic mail"? Cause I'm sure there's still a sizable portion of those people out there.

No......it's just the people who actually work for a living don't have the time or energy after a long day at work to feel the need to mess around with their cell phone.

Nor do they have time during their work day to look at facebook or twitter.

I would wager if these "old white people" actually have a cell phone at all they use it to talk to people.

Well, I definitely qualify as an old white geezer. I knocking on the door of 50 and I don't even care! LOL!
I have considered a smart phone I honestly evaluated "do I need it?".
The answer was NO. I have a cell phone with a ton of neat features I never use, but it was cool to get it. How is getting a smart phone that will be duplicating many of the same features PLUS paying for an expensive data plan a good idea?
If people bothered to reconcile the "I want" against "I need" in an honest way they would probably be much happier.
Now if something like an iPad was around 6 years ago I would have been all over it. I had a different job and had to travel all the time. I had to have a ton of technical documents on hand all the time. And this was paper manuals. But now, meh. I've moved up in the world.

I'd like to know what the % were per race that actually took that survey and what the median age was per race group.

I don't know how you guys can leave your house without you phone. What do you do when your taking a crap?? :p

I guess I am an old coot that only wants my cell phone to be a 'phone' and not a security leak. I am a old school type that doesn't want people I neither know nor care about tracking me, my movements, or selling data to others I could care less about.

So, I figure you think I am afraid of computers and such...

hehehehe...

My computers (desk top and tablet) seem to work just fine. Kept up to date and somewhat anonymous.

I was programming and playing computer games before most here were thought of, let alone born.

Since where I live, the big data companies are selling out to the bigger government... I am glad to be only a phone user, not a data drainer.

I take a crap. ;)

Some of you old white guys couldnt be more clueless or out of touch.

"ignorance is bliss"

GET OFF MY LAWN you PUNK!!!

OH, sorry. One of those old white guy reflexes.

On the contrary I'm very tech savvy. Why, back in my day; I uh...........aww, forget it.

Much of today's gadgetry is waste one's time rather than make one more productive. ;)

I'm guess I'm old too. I would have liked to have one but two issues held me back. My vision isn't the greatest and I don't want to wear glasses to read a phone. And my fine dexterity sucks.

They gave use smartphones for work. And yes, the small screen is a pain and 50% of the time I hang up on people because the unlocker swipe ends up putting my finger right over the 'end call' button. And a little tremble in my finger I unlock and hang up in one motion.

I'm getting very close to old (almost 50) and I have two smartphones. One personal and one for work. And when my contract is up I'll get another one. As far as the work one is concerned it just might be an iPhone. I don't get to pick it. I teach for a living now and my iPad is indispensable. So "old" can kiss my ass! I'll be OC'ing rigs, jailbreaking/rooting phones, hacking consoles and screwing with OBDII till I die.
:D

I had one of the first smart phones (Samsung Omnia), truthfully... it was for young people with extremely good eye sight. Something young people tend to forget, someday they'll be much older and their sight won't be as good. The font size was limited and terribly small. Reading text on the web was difficult and scrolling was even worst, constantly loosing line placement, requiring (older) user to start completely over. In the end... it was only good for surfing porn pictures. What a waste of monthly data fees in addition to internet fees for home pc. I didn't understand tethering back then either. Font size determines older consumers from purchasing a host of fine products i.e. ebooks, cameras, c-phones, gps devices, etc. Too many young engineers not catering to older consumers reading needs. The ability to read menus is very important to us, so to the young engineers, your day is coming soon. ;)

Why upgrade? They might be happy with their current phones
