Here's the deal.

My system:
A64 Sandy 3200+ @3ghz
2x1gb G.skill pc3200 @220mhz
X1900XTX 512mb @stock

It's old. It gets around 17 fps outdoors in oblivion at its worst, which is nigh unacceptable for me.

I'm thinking of getting an HD4850. Now confirm my suspicions for me please. My good old Sandy's going to be a big bottleneck right? Not to mention the RAM.

Thanks!

How high will I have to go to eliminate CPU bottlenecking? Will I need a complete rebuild to take advantage of the HD4850?

You will still notice a large bump in game performance, but yeah a single core, even at 3ghz, will somewhat bottleneck the higher end cards.

Since he started the thread.

AMD 4800 X2 *939*
2GB ram DDR1
ATI 3870 512

Invest in a new AM2 DDR2 system & stick with old card
Or
Keep on going with the graphic card upgrades.

Your 4800+ is already bottlenecking your 3870 somewhat. No point in getting new vid card until you upgrade new system. And by update I mean buy Intel.
