after months and months and months i finally save up enough money to get a mid range gaming pc here is what i came up with

MSI K8N Neo4-F Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard $86.00
Rosewill R214P-BLK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 400W PS $36.99
OptoRite Beige IDE DVD Burner Model DD1603 $46.99
SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP1213C 120GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive OEM(what does oem mean?) $73.00
Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200 $41.99
THERMALTAKE Silent PurePower TT-420AD(DUAL FAN) ATX 420W PS $36.99
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939 $153.99
GIGABYTE GV-NX66T128D Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card$169.00

I have exactly 675 to spend and all that came to 656 including tax, now i have a few questions this is my first time building and i need to know do i have all the parts to build my pc?

1.is the Msi a good motherboard will i be happy wiht it?
2.the powersupply that comes in that case should i just keep that one or getting the Thermaltake Silent purepower was a good idea?, becusae i could get another stick of 512 without it, but after reading so many posts about powersupplies and bottlenecking i dont want to take the chance of my system overheating.
3. will that powersupply keep my system cool, and not overheat
4.should i go with venice or winchester?
5. is gigabyte a good brand for the geforce 6600gt

thank you for taking your time and reading this, all suggestions and opionions will be greatly appericated. ;)

Go venice over winchester, unless the price is crazy, in which case you can just go to another site.

Don't use a psu that comes with a case is a good rule of thumb. I can't think of any cases really that are bundled with good psu's. And try to get a gig of ram for 86$ or so if you can.

Get the Samsung 160GB, not 120GB.

Don't touch TT PSUs. Get a Fortron BlueStorm. It will cost more. It will be worth it.

Get 2x512MB so you can run in dual-channel mode and will be able to run LongHorn better when it's out.

Get the Leadtek 6600GT instead. It has a better fan. It's the same price.

Get a NEC burner, ND-3520A

thx for the great advice, i didn't even see that 160gig and only cost 7more bucks, it's a sata 133 instead of sata 150, now i can't get teh 1gig yet becusae i have exactly 45-50 bucks to spend now, now i need to get a powersupply that will will work just fine wiht my system, the Fortron BlueStorm you mention dragon was more than i could spend the only one i saw that was in my price range was this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104936

350watt would thi sbe enough to cool my system down and not cause any overheating?

and does my motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130491 support sata 133, sorry for all these questions but i'm a idiot when it comes to building a comp

That 350W is no powerhouse but it's enough for what you listed. Just keep in mind that if you ever want to start adding a bunch of drives, overclocking, etc, then you will need a new one.

There's no such thing as SATA133. There's an ATA133 version of the 160GB, make sure to avoid it. The correct drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822152015 -- I run 2 currently.

Other possible PSUs:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103444
possibly http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817171005

yeah - you don't want use the PSU that comes with that case... Fortron makes really good PSUs, and I'm positive that 350W will be enough to handle your system.. some 350W Fortron models can handle around 450W..

oh.. and PSU isn't meant to keep your computer cool.. you have case fans for that ;)

okay this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811147007, and htis powersupply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817104936....will work good for system?, and also have you ever heard of this motherboard is it any good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130491 it's all i can afford at the moment, i'm sorry for asking so many questions but i'm so worried i'm gonna get the wrong parts or i won't have everythng to build my pc and i'll be out of 675buks :(

Get an Antec case with power supply. Their power supplies are solid, and the cases are too! And that'll run about $60 - $70. Good cooling and modest looks.

If the case costs 36.99, then you really need to replace the PSU. I wouldn't trust my hardware to a cheap PSU like that.

If you get an Antec case, you're almost definitely getting a quality PSU.

Also enermax cases... the cases are crap but last time around I got a 24A @ 12V PSU! :D

Stay clear of the roswill case. The reason being that good cases (I mean nice cases the kind you would like) are simply not made cheaper then 50$ and really you should be spending at least 60$. That antec case you posted earlier looked fine and the powersupply it comes with is also made by Antec so you should be fine with that.

Edit: ^^yes the antec case with the cooling your various parts come with (collectively and individually called 'stock cooling') will be fine and you shouldn't have any issues with overheating so long as you don't get crazy and stick like 4 HD's and or start overclocking things.

To answer one of your original questions OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Basically this means your getting the part and nothing else so no software, no manual, no pretty retail box etc. Some places will bundle a manual or Xerox a page off and put it in there but most wont. This however is important to you because it probably means you won't have the SATA cables you need coming with the drive. Now again some OEM hard drives will ship with the needed cables anyway but some wont. So after you get your drive you might need to go out and buy a SATA cable and a SATA power converter cable (since it appears the drive your looking at doesn't have the traditional power connectors as an option). Under no circumstances should you pay too damn much for these items heh. For instance Bestbuy will sell you a SATA cable for 18$. While some places online will sell it to you for a 1.50 to 2$.

Another thing you seem to forgot is cost of shipping. Newegg charges about 15$ to ship a PC case. Other items cost less and some ship free. If you are fixed to a specific amount you might want to take that into account.

And finally by now you will have realized that there are as many opinions about gaming machines as there are people that own them. Your original configuration that you first posted will work (assuming you get a SATA cable) and play any game on the market today or is likely to come out in the next 2 or 3 years at great to decent settings (as time progresses). All these other opinions (like getting a 160gig HD over a 120) are just that, opinions, and may not figure in well with your budget.

Definately buy a separate power supply. The ones that come with cases are usually bad and if they die they could bring the whole system with it.

...Dan

Heh ok I take it all back... While your HD and DVD drive might or might not come with any cables. Your Motherboard is retail and it comes with everything you need. Or so says the picture that I see of it here.

Sorry for raising alarm for no reason. You should be good to go.

good choice on the case. the PSU in that case will work fine. the 6600GT isn't too bad of a power hog and you aren't running anything crazy. should work great. I have a similar case and i love it.

and yes, your motherboard will come with SATA cables and IDE too.

defintely get the venice. It overclocks like mad at stock everything, temps hardly move at all and it's solid. not to mention it has an improved memory controller and also SSE3 instruction capability.

I'd suggest Corsair RAM IF it's the same price. I've got the value ram and it's great. lets see what else....OH.....try and get a Lite-On burner. Dunno how much they run for but my lite-on cd-r is awesome, not a single bad burn. works with itunes flawlessly at 52x. If not, i bet that optorite should work ok.

Other than that, have fun and come back to us if you have any problems! enjoy!
