[] I moved my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum from my old computer to my new one and its not working properly. The tower boots up find and there isn't any video but I know its good cuz I got a brand new Sapphire X850XT w/ a Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9. When the computer boots up, it acts like the RAM is bad but I know its not. I checked the RAM b4 installing the soundcard and the computer boots up fine. The RAM is Corsair PC3200 2x512MB (standard and not XMS). I asked Creative for some help but what they replied w/ was that the IRQ's are what’s causing the problem. I spent 4 or so hours changing around the PCI IRQ's in the BIOS and still nothing. So for right now I have them on "auto" and the soundcard isn't installed. I would also like to mention that I used this card in my older comp and my moms comp and I didn't have a problem like this at all. Can anyone give me some input on how to possibly fix this prob. I would really appreciate it. [/:confused:]

Have you tried putting the sound card in another PCI slot? If possible, as far away from the graphics card as possible. :)

You could be hitting the limits of your PS. Could you list the rest of your hardware?

**Edit** Welcome to the [H]ardOCP forums by the way. Check out the distributed computing sections if you want to help medical science. (Once you get your computer fixed anyway ;))

ty Oldie

anyways... I tried the other 2 PCI slots and I still had the same prob. There is one more PCI slot however its being blocked by the heatsink on the vidcard. I got a AMD 64-bit 4000+, 600watt Enermax, WD 200GB SATA HDD, and a NEC CD+DVD burner (combo drive). On the mobo I do have a couple of PCIX 1x slots that are not being used. Do you think mebbe that might have something to do w/ it?

Damn, I sure thought moving it to another PCI slot would fix your problems. Do you have integrated audio? Have you turned it off first in the BIOS? Is everything seated properly? Sometimes a slight bump when setting up the PC might unseat a card.

Also, what do the diagnostic lights on your motherboard tell you? Almost every motherboard is different, so you'll have to check your manual to figure out what the lights mean.

yea I have intergrated audio and I turned it off b4 I even installed my soundcard. I would also make sure its seated good in the PCI slot and screw it in w/ some thumbscrews that the case manufacturer sent w/ the case (got a Thermaltake VA3000). btw... does anyone know of a certain incompatibility between Creative sound cards and Gigabyte mobos? I even tried installing my older Sound Blaster Live! platinum and even that didn't work. Yet when I put in some crappy 3Com modem it booted up just fine.

Hmm... have you tried flashing the motherboard with the newest BIOS? And what do the motherboard lights tell you? It's the only thing I can think of right now.

Anyone else have any ideas?

no I haven't tried flashing the BIOS just yet. But I prolly should really soon.... and I don't know of any lights on the mobo and indicate. You may want to research the Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9 some more 1c3d0g.

No, I haven't had time to investigate this particular board, sorry... but it must indicate something, either through lights or if it doesn't have the LED's, beeping noises... something which tells you how far the BIOS is booting and where it encounters a problem and what that problem is.

Another SB Audigy 2 Plat ZS issue;

I lost my discs, installed the drivers I found on the site, but the front panel isn't functioning at all, any ideas?
*edit* Looked in the FAQ, saw a link to an FTP that contains what I need, possibly? Link is dead though.

I didn't need anything "but" the drivers to get the front panel working. I use it for optical outs. I never install any creative software ever since it hosed my system years ago.

Did you make sure the IDE cable running from your soundcard to your front panel is properly connected with the red line facing you? If you don't have that connected you really should if you want it to work.

There is some beeping noises that its suppose to do if anything is wrong but its not doing it when I put in my soundcard.

Thats not gonna help at all since I can't even boot up my comp with the card in it.

UPDATE: I just flashed the BIOS and still that update didn't work. I'm starting to thing its a power issue. Not enough power might be supplied for it to boot properly. What's prolly taking up alot of the juice is the mixture of the 64-bit Proc and the PCIX vidcard.

I'm sorry, I should have quoted. I was responding to the other person with the driver problem.

To clarify your issue, though, when you plug in a sound card your video goes out, but when you have no sound, everything works fine (except sound, of course)?

That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. First thing I would suspect is your mainboard. Have you/can you try the vid card and sound card together in a different system? Like your old computer or your Mom's computer? I'd say, if they work together elsewhere, contact your mainboard manufacturer and go that route...possibly all the way to an RMA if need be.

Well its kinda hard to test in both in another system since the vid card is a PCIX and I have the only mobo in the house that supports it. This computer is the reason y I don't use my old computer. I sorta killed my last one. For all those who want to know how I killed my old comp..... I was playing Chronicles of Riddick and overdid the settings. I was using a Radeon 9800 Pro, AMD XP 3200, 550Watt (some brand I never heard of), and the same RAM I'm using in this comp. Anyways, The voltages spiked cuz the vid card was wanting too much power since the game was asking too much from it. And so my power supply pretty much blew up and fried just about everything. I say just about everything since my soundcard (my exact same one I'm tryin to get working in this system) and my RAM were the only things salvageable. The rest of it is 5h!t anyways. Luckily we has some insurance in case this type of thing happened and low… my new (almost) uber comp is born. I may just go for one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829121116 or one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829121101 (since I can’t get all that running correctly.)

Well since both of those lack the joystick interface, go for the 7.1

Or just tough out onboard till hercules releases the Fortissimo IV

well it turns out I can use my PS controller as if it were a USB joystick. So there isn't a need for a joystick port anymore.

Well then just grin and bear onboard until you can save up and snag a Fortissimo 4. No point in blowing money on a mediocre souncard for that kind of system. Either set up a 2.1 or ghetto surround for your speakers or just use headphones
