agree'd.. if it was say a GTX 285.. i might feel sorry for it.. but i mean come on it was a glorified rebranded 8600GT with a g92 gpu :D lol sorry had to do it..

well welcome to the addiction.. 1 card down and a shit load more to go.. lol its a never ending struggle..
 
Yeah i know the feeling man. I had my 8800gt die a while back, but i sucked and didn't register it with evga and they refused to honor my warranty. So this time I went xfx, but i don't see the 5870 as cost effective to run folding on right now so it stays idle while my quad dumps about 11k ppd on the A3 units :)

If you can handle a used card, ppl are selling off old 260's and 280's for peanuts right now in the FS forum.
 
uggg why is a card that was released nearly 2 years ago (260) still selling for $150 USED??

I think that FAH inflates NV prices quite a bit.

This. Now wait for the new 480,470 cards to start folding and the price will fall.....

Unless the ppd on the above cards are lacking.
 
It also has to do with availability. The 260's were down to 100$ a piece at one time, I got 2 of my 3 at that price

Just like Ram and 920's, prices will go up and down, right now they all are up a bit

got my 920 for 200, they're going around 225 still

the best ppd/$ is probably in the full version of the g92 aka the 8800GTS 512MB, 9800GTX, 9800GTX+, GTS250

Gotta love rebranding....

You should be able to find one of those for around $75 and they'll bring you 5000-6000 ppd
 
Agreed with G92. 9800GTX+&GTS250 for a long term more power efficient card and 8800GTS 512MB if you plan to sell it in less then a year and upgrade.

well, being the broke college kid that I am, I went ahead and took the card apart, cleaned it, and then baked it, put it all back together and what do you know, its working so far...

havent loaded up the GPU client though :eek:

For those of you who do bake your cards, at what temperature do you bake it and for how long? Do you need to preheat the oven? Just wondering.....
 
385 deg for 8 min

Preheat the oven to 385.
Remove the fan unit from the video card
Make 4 tinfoil balls
flip card upside down, so the gpu chip is facing down towards the cookie sheet
prop the card up on the 4 corners with the tinfoil balls
BAKKKKEEEE ITTTTT for 8 minutes!

Remove, let cool.

Reinstall fan, make sure you use a good thermal paste!
 
Oh that sucks, I did manage to pick up my GTS 250 OC edition for $105 used though, so there is hope of finding a good price on a used card.
 
385 degrees for 8 minutes? Now that is scary...........

I hope I never have to do such a thing to revive my video cards. At least my gaming rig GPU's have that double lifetime warranty or whatever it is that XFX calls it.
