offloading cpu processing to video card?

Can someone tell me what settings to adjust on a Gigabit Radeon HD 4550 512MB 64-bit DDR3 in order to off-load the video processing from my amd 64 3500+ cpu in my compaq sr1830nx? Thanks!

I watch standard dvd's and videos such as youtube, hulu, flash, wmv amd mpg from the internet. My broadband is only around 6mbps. Should I make any adjustments to anything to make those video sources playback as smoothly as possible based on the capabilities of my cpu or are the default settings fine. In other words, can I just plug in the video card, install the driver and enjoy all the benefits this card can give me over intergrated graphics or should I download something else or make some adjustments?
 
AFAIK the 4550 won't decode flash. So you are out of luck
 
Are you sure? Doesn't it do DXVA2? Isn't that hardware acceleration for flash? The thing is, will it do DXVA2 under Xp?

Not really. Most people over in the HTPC subforum are either using the onboard video of a Nvidia 8200, 8300, 9300, or 9400 chipset or an add-on ATI card. Don't worry about not getting an Nvidia. ATI was still the better choice.
