Official PS5 Thread

So weren't the Pro-enhanced games supposed to have basically just one combined "Pro" option for graphics!? Even my boss said he looked forward to the games just running in Pro mode instead of choosing between performance and fidelity. I can't remember all off the top of my head, but I checked Horizon Forbidden West, Demon's Souls, GoW Ragnarok, and Ratchet and Clank, and at least HFW and one other game had multiple "Pro" graphics options.

That's how I remember Cerny pitching it - however in the few games I tried the enhanced titles added options. Not sure why somebody would want to use the older PS5 Performance/Quality if there's new Pro-specific modes available, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's some titles where the built-in dynamic resolution looks better due to the Pro not having to down-res as often.

Do you know if the transfer needs both consoles? I want to get a pro but want to sell my OG PS5 to offset the cost and I’d rather sell it before I buy the pro

There's a 'USB drive' backup option which should do the trick for you.

I should have done the USB instead. I don't know why the transfer is so slow. I can download the game faster than the transfer.

If you have an NVME drive installed, you can simply transfer that over to the new console and all your installed games will be there. Same with a USB drive. I've been using the same 4TB drive from my PS4 with all those games on there still and a few PS5 games backed up on it.

I don't but I plan to buy one.

How long would a transfer take? Would it be easier to just download the games all over again?

Not sure how long a USB transfer would take, I did the network transfer and that was about 3 hours.

It would probably be easy to redownload, just be wary that if you don't have PS+, your saves won't be saved to the cloud, so you'll still need to find an alternative to transfer them. Not sure if it'll be much faster, at least in my experience, PSN isn't the fastest service out there (my network speed test usually cap at 90-ish mb download, and even lower during 'peak' PSN usage hours).

Right now I only really play COD so I'm not so worried about saved games. I do have saves for GOW, TLOU and RDR and I can copy those to an external drive. I'll just have to take pics of my console settings because idt you can transfer those via usb.

Speculations on Sony's handheld plans:

Sony Developing PlayStation Handheld Console To Compete With Switch, Xbox

A new report from Bloomberg states that Sony is developing a portable handheld console that would allow people to play their PlayStation 5 (PS5) games while on the go.

“Sony’s portable device is likely years away from launch and the company could still decide against bringing it to market, the people said, asking not to be named discussing private plans,” the report reads.

It’s said that the development “builds on the PlayStation Portal”. As opposed to playing games via streaming them from the console over the internet, however, this new device will be an actual console that is aiming at competing with the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo’s upcoming Switch successor. Bloomberg adds that sources told them that Sony’s original plan for the Portal was for it to work as a standalone system “like Valve’s Steam Deck” before it became the streaming device it is.

Sony declined to comment to Bloomberg on the report.

Forza Horizon 5 Coming to PlayStation 5 in Spring 2025

It's been confirmed on the official website for Forza Horizon 5 that this previously Xbox-exclusive title will now be coming to PlayStation 5...the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 was developed by Panic Button in partnership with Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games...the game will come with all of the same content as the Xbox and PC versions of the title...

Do you think Gran Turismo will ever come to PC ?
GT7 probably won't. Kaz said a PC release would be something he would consider, but there were no plans to develop a PC version. Given his and Polyphony's strive for perfection it would probably take them many years to get GT7 on PC. It's probably more realistic to see a PC release for the eighth entry to the series.
It was part of the Nvidia leak, which has been incredibly accurate. And even leaked completely unannounced games, such as Dragon's Dogma 2. FF9 remake. Monster Hunter 6 (Wilds). Not only leaks about PC ports of already existing games.

https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeak...definitive_compilation_of_leaked_geforce_now/
FF9 remake has been rumored for years and there still isn't an iota of information on it coming out from Square Enix. A now-deleted X post 4 months ago said its development was complete. If that were true you'd think we would have heard something official about it by now. I would also think they'd want to finish FF7 Remake before moving onto another one. FF7 Remake was officially announced 5 years before it came out, with the game itself being shown a year before release.

I was just playing through the more recent PC release and don't think it needs a remake, especially if they're going to turn it into some fast action RPG like everything else they're doing these days. That, and I'm sure they'll be pressured to nerf Dagger/Garnet/Sarah since she is 16 years old in the game.

Other than that, there are still a lot of entries on that list that have no hints at being developed:
  • I highly doubt Titanfall 3 is being made. Apex Legends is still printing money for EA. If anything else is being developed in the Titanfall universe, it will continue to follow that formula.
  • I also highly doubt Demon's Souls remake is coming to PC.
  • "Half-Life 2 Remastered" was never a thing, so I don't know why that has a checkmark by it. The 20th anniversary patch was not a remaster.
  • Nintendo is never letting go of Bayonetta 3. If Bayonetta 2 never came to PC, then neither is Bayonetta 3.
  • Déraciné is a FromSoftware game that even FromSoft fans hardly know about, so I don't know why they'd bother making a PC version. The number of copies it sold was in 4 figures (single thousands). It's also VR-only.

Beloved Sony mascot Sackboy gets the sack from PlayStation Productions logo

It feels like Sackboy - the once-beloved mascot from the LittleBigPlanet games - is slowly getting sidelined by the PlayStation brand...While familiar faces such as Uncharted's Nathan Drake, Ratchet and Clank's Ratchet and Clank and Astro Bot could all still be seen in the video, which plays ahead of a PlayStation Productions project, Sackboy was now absent from the line up...

Interesting because the last Sackboy game sold pretty well. Even on PC!

Wait... There was a Sackboy/LBP game on PC? Did it really sell that well?

There was that "Sackboy: A Big Adventure" title, not sure how well it's sales have been (article from a couple of years back highlighted lackluster Steam launch numbers.)

It has sold (about) 2 million on PS4/5 and potentially up to about 200k on Steam. On steam, that's about half as much as Returnal. Abou 1/3 Horizon Forbidden West. 8-10x Lego Horizon Adventures.

See "pretty well", relative to the game size/budget. Its not a flop. And its good to have such titles in your portfolio. And having done almost 10x better than a Lego game is pretty dang good.

I just got a Playstation Portal. Best Buy had open box ones starting around 130. I got an "excellent" one for 135. Came in original box, looked new. No USB-C cord though, but no big I have a ton.

I find that my PS5 collects a lot of dust bc as a working adult I don't have infinite time to play games, and inevitably when I do the wife will magically teleport into the living room when I'm 5-10 minutes into something. With this thing I can play and she can watch TV, no screen fighting. One assumes you could stream media from the PS5 in the same fashion but I can use a laptop/tablet for that.

Anyway so far I'm pretty impressed with it. It can double as a second dualsense controller for your PS5 (mine will never be used for that purpose), those are $60+ new. Once I got it set up and connected to the PS5 it's very smooth so far even with both ends on wifi. The 8" screen is nice. I was actually looking at Legion Go's for portable pc gaming and PS remote play, but those are a grand and big/heavy. No way I can justify price. I tried doing remote play on my phone but the screen is just too small for me.

If this thing could somehow stream PC games too it would be awesome.

When these things came out I was like "Why?" Now I get it.

This guy even got his working on a road trip using his phone's wifi hotspot. I have T-Mobile so this probably wouldn't work out so hot for me https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaystationPortal/comments/1jsz9co/works_on_the_road/

edit - I guess the Slickdeals effect kicked in, the prices on Best Buy have gone up to $150

I've seen those refurb units on Best Buy and feeling the temptation to get one. I've used the PXPlay streaming app on my ROG Ally and it works fine, but it's not seamless (initial connection can be wonky) and I like the idea of having the full suite of dual sense features.

They been generally well reviewed from what I've seen. Most people, including myself, just can't accept they're only good for streaming and can't do anything on-device, like at least play PS1/PSP/PS Vita games. I get it though with the wife/family situation and I basically treat my Steam Deck the same way, just with local games and occasionally streaming from my PC, which works great as well.

Nope. Never bought into the "pro" versions. AND they got rid of the 4KUHD drive, which is the primary thing I use my PS5 for anyway nowadays, minus some PS Portal light gaming. PS5 is probably my last console unless something so earth shatteringly new comes along to make me piss my pants. I have doubts. I thought VR was going to be it, but NOPE

I bought one for 680$ locally. That’s down from usual 850$ it sells for. Wondering if I should also buy the disc drive even though I will have 3 TB of space.

The new Bloodstained looks incredible. Super excited for that one. Beyond that, I love the idea of a Thief VR as long as they can make the gameplay passable. Never been a big Mahvel fan, but I can imagine those folks are pumped. It isn't quite what everyone wanted, but it seems like a pleasant surprise. If nothing else, the graphics are killer.

I'll never buy this, but it looks cool. I had a wireless fight stick for 360 and played the f*ck out of MK, Tekken, etc it was cool. But now... nah and you know it's gonna be like $200+

at first I thought it was a Sony Flight stick but thought it looked strange

Yeah, just get a Mayflash F700 Elite for less. Works wirelessly on PS5 and virtually every other platform to boot. Only thing that could make Defiant good is if the latency is a lot better.

First game I am playing on my PS5 pro. Death stranding 2 runs like a charm.
I saw their gameplay demo and noticed stutters and was concerned, but I did play to the first delivery area in Mexico and it was smooth. I'm on PS5 Pro, I used the Pro fidelity/quality setting, which appears to be running at 60FPS based on my LG TV's game bar. No stutters.
