Drivers I would say. I have AMD and it pops in like hell. I know people with nVidia and it's fine.
Yes, it's really that bad. I'm running Nvidia and I don't have any CTD issues that ATI users are seeing, but the texture popin is bad. Had to force VSYNC in nvidia options, first game I've had that tears so bad, and no VSYNC option in the game itself. Had to enable console to adjust menu sensitivity (what is it with console ports and menu sensitivity being through the roof?) and FOV. But, that said, it's been fun to play if you subtract out the graphical problems and configuration hassle.
Texture popin isn't bothering me that much, since it'll be fixed very very soon.
But the gameplay itself is terribly boring
Combat is bland.... What am I doing wrong?
I just don't find combat that engaging at all. I just aim my rifle, pull butan and wait until the enemy dies. It's not exciting/engaging at all for me. Maybe it'll change soon, I'm 1.7 hours into the game.I'm quite surprised you think the combat is bland. I've been reading reviews and comments and most people seem to be pleased with the enemy AI providing dynamic gunfights. I'm genuinely interested in what you find bland or don't like about the combat.
Anyone running Rage on an SSD? Wonder if that would help the texture pop in problem.
provide us with some screenshots then considering you have a 580 sli setup, show us how it looks and let us decide
EXTRA INFO:
my specs:
intel i7 2600k @ stock speed
16GB of DDR3 ram
EVGA Geforce GTX580
Win7 Ultimate 64-bit
Here's the only real tweaks I've applied:
(1) downloaded the latest Nvidia beta drivers (285.xx)
(2) set RAGE.EXE in my steam folder to triple buffer on, vsync on via the nvidia control panel
(3) Make sure to turn on GPU transcoding in RAGE's option menu if you have a nvidia GTX400 or GTX500 series card... improves texture quality and such
(4) IF your getting alot of texture pop-in or screen tearing, try setting your video cards vsync options to on through you cards control panel, and also try disabling SLI and/or updating your video drivers.
(5) Some have reported random crashing on certain SLI configurations. Try disabling SLI. If your game still randomly grashes, once again, try updating your vid drivers... this seems to helping ALOT by updating with many issues.
(6)These are my launch settings (configured in Steam):
+ cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 + image_anisotropy 16 + image_usecompression 0
- change fov from default of 80 to 100
- disable intro vids
- improve texture sharpness over distance
- use higher quality textures
I've enabled the console so I can see settings, etc by editing my default.cfg and adding:
com_allowConsole 1
but you can also choose these methods:
Method 1) In Steam launch options add +set com_allowconsole 1
Method 2) Create a shortcut to Rage.exe and add +set com_allowconsole 1
Launch game from shortcut.
Method 3) Alternatively, you can add it to the default.cfg located in:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base\default.cfg
Add at the very top set com_allowconsole 1
If you launch game directly from Steam console will now be enabled.
To drop down console in-game, press tilda (~) (default key mapping).
To view commands: listCmds
To view cvars: listCvars
Enter clear to erase the console window.
since every reviews says that the graphics is amazing I would like to know who complains about graphics or popping texture what hardware are using.
obviously you need a good graphics card to run this game, if you have a single GTX560/570 running on a 24inch display really, don't complain before buying an upgrade for your hardware.
Havent read the entire thread, but
The whole point of Id's new engine is to have it looking next gen with old hardware. 9800gtx or radeon 5550 is the recommended spec - the game obviously needs patching
This game specifically has no returns?[Edit] - got it on steam (steamworks), no return policy. They basically stole $60 from me. I'm so sick right now I can't even say it. I want to load it back up because it was supposed to be so good, but knowing the truth, I can't force myself to. It's just that bad!
I'm running GTX 580 SLI and an SSD, seeing popin issues except under certain configurations that I can't seem to replicate, and it doesn't seem SLI is actually functioning. I could be wrong but the performance between non-SLI and SLI is no different, and the "nvidia recommended" setting always reverts it to "Single-GPU", selecting one of the rendering options for SLI still gives the same performance.
@CatalystCreator: All - don't use the current Rage performance driver - package includes very old OGL files, that's why you're seeing corruption etc.
@CatalystCreator: New Rage driver with proper OGL component will be posted later today
wow....so disappointed in what I'm hearing about ID's latest offering.
It seems like they been working on this forever, WTH happened???
