*** Official Catalyst 5.1 Thread ***

Everything works fine for me, except it when I pull up the driver information it says Catalyst 4.12

Ran driver cleaner in safemode and everything, but it keeps saying its 4.12

afaik the 9500 problem is fixed .. one user still claims he has problems .. please post here if the softmod drivers work for you (9500->9700)

Greets W1z. I never downloaded the first (orginal) version but did try the "corrected" second version. The file size of the patched ati2mtag.sys that I tried was 468KB and this one works fine. However, in display properties it shows that my chip type is actually what it is (R9500). Every single softmod prior to CAT 5.1 shows R9700. But it still works. Why has this changed? Is ATI trying to stop the softmod from working again?

So there are 2 files to chose from the 22.8 and the 22.1 which are you guys downloading and why? Is one just missing the control pannel?

yup. one is without the cp with the l33t red car thing :/ for some shady reasons that version sucked 100 meg of system ram eh.

Nah, my 9600XT works just the same as before - which features are you missing?
I reinstalled windows and they came back, probably just needed cleaning up.

"there are lots of incompatibilities with SP2 still, just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for the 100 million other computers out there"

Agreed. I also know a lot of people that have hosed their systems with SP2. Maybe they didn't do it right or maybe they had a lot of crap on their systems before they upgraded. Personally, it's too many people for me to even try it. When I need it, I'll get it (or maybe SP2a). My computer's at home are both secure anyway and I don't have wireless stuff.

Also, the 5.1s look like they aren't worth it for me. I'll check back when the 5.2s are released.

I'm currently on a dell XPS system with a radeon 9800 XT, and these 5.12 drivers aren't working to great.
CCC will not run due to an initialization error and I've lost the ATi control panels now... starting with the overdrive panel

hint?

edit: 5.1 drivers

Using Catalyst 8-09 gives me hard reboots under specific rendering conditions. (K8N Neo2 plat, Winchester 3000+, HIS X800Pro ICEQ2, Windows 2000 SP4).

UT2003 intro, when Malcolm and company come up the elevator, the explosions and partical effects cause insta-reboot. Lowering the quality settings delays the reboot for a second or so, but it still reboots.

Same thing with 3DMark2000....in the demo, just after the chick enters the 'matrix', on entering the golden trace flyby, that causes a reboot.

Same thing with Max Payne 2 - in the sniper level in you slummy apartment - from the corridor, looking at the flames in your room being fed by the gas, causes reboot (lowering the quality settings fixes this). If you look at a big explosion, like an ammo box exploding along with some barrels...same thing. Looking away just before the explosion avoids the reboot, confirming my eventual belief that it was video-related..

At first, despairingly, I thought it was my new MSI board and Winchester, but on a hunch I installed Catalyst 8-07 (what I had on my previous nForce2 system) and the problems went away.

I'd tried everything from UNDERCLOCKING the system and video card, to disabling fast writes, AC97 hardware, etc etc, to no avail.

Looking at all the clues...it seems like when the driver is asked to do too many particles or something, it causes an internal hardware error and reboots. Well, on my X800 pro setup, at least. Perhaps the optimizations on the latest Cats are going a little overboard. Who knows?

So I'll stick with 8-07 for the time being. Not that it really matters...I didn't really notice any performance difference anyway.
