*** Official Catalyst 4.1 Thread ***

I'm using the 4.1 Omegas and they're awesome .... I may not run standard ATI Drivers anymore :D

Should i just install the new drivers over the 3.10s? or should i uninstall them first??

Uninstall thru the control panel, then use ATi's uninstall program to remove all other entries. Delete the C:\ATI folder, unplug your ethernet cable if thats how you get online and reboot. Hit delete when it finds new hardware, probably have to do this twice. Install the drivers, and reboot. Plug back in ethernet cable.

Good to go.

Thanks :D

In case my link above does not work.......I got 13294

Asus A7N8X Deluxe (ver 2.0)
Barton 2500+
768 PC2100
9800 Pro w/128Mb

No OC'ing was done to this system.

Actually, you should be getting scores in the mid-14000s with your system. But your PC2100 RAM (bandwidth: 2.1 GB/s), running at slower than your FSB bandwidth (2.7 GB/s), is what's holding your scores back. Worse, that PC2100 had defaulted to the single-channel mode, due to the mismatch between the memory size in DIMM3 and the total memory size in DIMM2 and DIMM1 combined.

nForce motherboards are set up so that you'll need one 512MB stick in DIMM3 and a 256MB stick each in DIMM2 and DIMM1 - or one 256MB stick each in DIMM3 and DIMM2 (but nothing whatsoever in DIMM1) - in order to enable dual-channel support. The total memory size in DIMM2 and DIMM1 combined must exactly match the size of the single stick of DIMM3 - otherwise, nForce motherboards will default to the single-channel mode. And with 768MB in your system, the only way that you'll ever get dual-channel PC2100 support is if the module in DIMM3 is a single 384MB stick (which doesn't exist at all whatsoever).

Asus is one of the few brands of nForce2-based motherboards that will actually allow you to set the memory speed at a slower speed than what your processor FSB is actually at. But many other nForce2 motherboards, such as my Abit NF7-S v2.0, will not run memory at a slower MHz speed than the processor FSB speed.

For the record, I'm running the ATI 4.1 Cats myself. And I got 14843 on that 3DMark2001SE Build 3.30 test, which is par for a 2.6GHz-class computer system running the same Catalyst driver version, with everything at stock speed settings.

I just installed the 4.1 from 3.7's drivercleaner uninstall
i have dual monitors and now when i play cod my secondary monitor is totally gamma'd out anyone have any ideas?

Points very well taken, however, I have 3 sticks of 256Mb. So by what you are saying I should remove #3 and replace it with a 512Mb. I really do not understand where you got the 384Mb number from though.

I got that 384MB number by simply dividing 768MB by 2. This means that you'll only get dual-channel support by using a 384MB stick in the DIMM slot that far apart from the other two DIMM slots. And there are absolutely no 384MB sticks of memory in existence.

So, the only way that you'll get dual-channel support on your system, if you don't want to buy new memory modules, is to remove one of those 256MB sticks that's close to another (but keep the 256MB module in the slot that's far apart from the other two). And most games run just fine on 512MB - you don't really need 768MB.

and DVI , will boot into windows only part of the time, other times black screen and reboots. When I can get back in to windows there is an error report waiting for me on the drivers -

back to the 3.8's ever since then I have had the problem, emailed ATI repeatedly and it had never been fixed or addressed.

I've benchmarked my BBA 9800 Pro with the 3.9, the 3.10 and the 4.1 Cats. Overall, the 4.1 Cats were a bit slower than the two previous Cats - the 4.1's scored only 15194 on 3DMark2001 SE Build 330, versus 15457 and 15481 for the 3.10's and the 3.9's. And though the 4.1's scored slightly higher on 3DMark03 Build 340 - 5541, versus 5496 and 5513 for the 3.10's and the 3.9's - the 4.1's scored significantly lower in the CPU score than the other two - 478, versus 531 and 535.

i think that score is right where it should be.... your pc2100 is whats holding you back. i tried your same card (made by sapphire) in the same exact system as yours, with 2x256 pc2100 and an axp 1600+ stock speeds, was getting just over 12k in 2001se.

you have a 333mhz fsb cpu with a vice grip around its balls. get some 333 mhz ram or even 400's and o/c. at 333mhz fsb i'd expect your score to be around the 16k range, assuming you are running your vid card at stock speeds. get the 400mhz ram and overclock fsb and your vid card, now you're talking high teens / 20k range. :D

I removed the stick of RAM from the middle slot. My 3DMark01 score went from 13294 to 13998. I guess if I upgraded my memory from PC2100 to PC3200 that could also boost my score.

That (the 13998 score) is not bad, for your system at stock speeds. And the system memory (133 actual MHz) isn't running in sync with your CPU's FSB speed (166 actual MHz), which increases the latencies that could impact your system's performance.

I had a few issues w/ CoD with the 3.9 drivers. Went with 4.1 and have been running great since. I've always just downloaded the new drivers right over the old ones and the properties always read as the most current ones. I haven't tried the Omegas yet. I'm running this: (no problems at all)!
P4C 3.0
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
1024 MB Corsair XMS DDR400 2-3-2-5
ATI 9800 Pro
Antec True Blue 480W
Zalman 7000Cu HSF
2x WD Raptors RAID 0
XP Pro SP1a

No overclocking, all stock speeds. Good Times.

Andrew
