Official Bulldozer PPD??

I said nothing of comparisons to Sandy Bridge, rather that an increase in overclocking headroom while decreasing power draw and fixing some of the gremlins in the B2 silicon will go a long way towards making this a chip that can stand on its own merits. Additionally, your account of the headroom increases and power draw reductions from stepping revisions are far lower than what has been seen by thousands across the enthusiast forums.



In any case I will not be a part of this thread getting dragged into the gutter, we shall wait and see what the new stepping brings.
 
I wonder if Bulldozer performance had anything to do with that guy from AMD being fired?
 
Well, something needs to happen with bios support. I can't even run my 8120 at stock speed. it is pretty much useless at this point.

Just found this over at FF, not wanting to call him out but can anyone verify/disprove the PPD that he is claiming??

Thats 65 minutes per frame. Even 64 cores @3Ghz is only going to give you 270k. Thats not good

He said he's getting 50k ppd on a 6903 at 4.4 ghz. That's interesting.
 
I find that rather hard to believe.

I dont... 40k for dual 2ghz i7 quad no ht... so 8 cores i7 @ 2ghz... on a 2689...

having bigger bonuses...and a heftier clock...id say its sad that it only does 50k....but I would say possible

Yep, I seem to remember a discussion a while back that thread spoofed oc'd 2600k's are somewhere between 50-60k on bigbeta so this is about inline with other benchmarks... slightly behind 2600k while consuming gobs more power. I'm not sure what's so surprising about that, some days I feel like I could make a post stating that computers produce heat and there would be a couple people on here claiming that was false. :rolleyes:

Just for kicks... If your goal is not a winter heater...which for some it is...and even then...heat is a byproduct not a product ...unless your gpu folding... :p

hopefully I will be able to join the fun soon. I had to buy a X4 840 today in order to flash the bios on my ASUS M5A99X EVO. Hopefully that solves the issue.
 
He's just posted his log - mainly at my request - looks like an average of ~63 minutes per frame on the 6903, which would give around 50k PPD.
 
I flashed my BIOS on my M5A99X EVO to the 8010 beta and now it properly detects my 8120.

At stock speeds in Ubuntu I'm getting about 13,000 PPD on a 6069.

What are these stock speeds you speak of? I'm not familiar with the term...;)

The ones that are higher than my underclocked speed that my 970 board forces me to run with my 8120.

I really want to see how that thing overclocks. Knowing the 990X may actually work would make the need to buy a new board a little less painful...

You would be if you had been dealing with a barely-supported CPU on three different motherboards and multiple BIOS versions on each over the past week.
 
I am up and running on my M5A99X EVO.

I'm working in Ubuntu, which is probably a mistake, so I have no idea what temps are. lm-sensors or xsensors or something reports CPU temps of 89C. But I doubt that's right. The bottom of the heatpipes on my Hyper 212 feel only moderately warm.

So I started working on the OC. I pushed base clock up to 230 for a cpu speed of about 3.6ghz. I've bumped up vcore to 1.4, CPU NB to about 1.3, and NB to about 1.25 IIRC. PPD on a 6099 unit is just under 15k.
 
I can work with you to get tpc running...
 
It's getting better. I'm up to 22k PPD on a 6099 at 3.8ghz (I think).

This is with a hands-off overclocking with everything set to auto except for base clock, which is at 250mhz.

Do you have a kill-o-watt on this system? I'm just wondering about power draw. 22K ppd @ 3.6 almost seems reasonable - anyone have a 2600K or Nahalem quad/hex or even a Thuban comparison at that clock speed?
 
My 1090T was getting about 13.5k at 3.6, this was under win 7 and running a 460, but that was a while ago. When i was waiting for my 2nd x5670 the one i had was getting about 23-24k under windows SMP
 
Damn it...now I am actually going to have to try to overclock mine without multiplier adjustment... :)
 
So, I'm still fumbling my way through this, but apparently leaving everything to "Auto" really helps with this mobo. I'm actually guessing the Turbo Core setting was screwing me up. I tried disabling Turbo Core, but apparently leaving it enabled actually helps with overclocking. Go figure.

So, now I'm at 250mhz bclk x 16 = 4ghz. Turbo is enabled, so it might possibly be running faster than that under FAH load, but I doubt it. I have no idea how to check the CPU speed under ubuntu.

Power draw measured with my kill a watt is 246W. That's with one hard drive and a Geforce 6200 LE for the GPU. Looks like PPD is in the 25k range on the 6099 smp WU.
 
That actually is not bad. I is not the best folder but it appears that is at least competitive with some modern CPU's when folding. This may give some hope for dual C32.

Dual C32 maybe not. Isn't AMD sticking to 8 or 12 "cores" on C32? I'm not sure there would be much benefit vs magny cours. Unless the clock speed goes through the roof.

Interlagos seems like a legitimate contender to me, however.

But dual C32 is available on standard ATX boards, if the PPD is right it could be a viable option
