New Features
This section provides information on new features found in this release of the Radeon™ Display Driver. These include the following:
• ATI CrossFireX™ Enhancements
• HydraVision Support for Windows XP
• New Display Enhancements
• Performance Improvements

ATI CrossFireX™ Enhancements
This release of ATI Catalyst™ enables users to verify whether an application is running in ATI CrossFireX™ mode. The new option found in the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center system tray, will allow users to verify whether a Direct3D or OpenGL application is running in ATI CrossFireX™ mode. (The “ATI Cross-FireX” logo will be shown on screen when the application is running).

HydraVision Support for Windows XP
This release of ATI Catalyst™ introduces HydraVision support for the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center under Windows XP. HydraVision enables users to more efficiently organize multiple applications across single or multiple displays. Highlights include:
• HydraGrid – A new feature found in HydraVision that divides the Windows desktop into user definable areas. This helps users to more easily move and organize multiple applications.
• HydraVision Hotkeys – The ATI Catalyst™ Control Center Hotkey Manager can assist users to quickly setup and define their HydraVision specific hotkey commands.
• HydraVision Virtual Desktops – Users can configure up to 9 different virtual desktops. This enables users to manage and group multiple applications across each user defined desktop. Application positions, desktop associations and display settings can be saved for every virtual desktop.
• HydraVision Wizard – Using the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center Wizard,
users can configure their HyrdaVision settings with ease.

New Display Enhancements
This release of ATI Catalyst™ Linux introduces support for display scaling to resize the display devices that support TV timings (480i/p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) through either digital (DVI or HDMI) or analog (component) interfaces.

Performance Improvements
The following performance gains are noticed with this release of Catalyst™
FarCry 2 – performance gains of 3 to 10% for Single card mode and 8 to 14% in Crossfire mode, with some specific configurations showing even greater improvements. Performance gains were noticed on all Radeon HD4xxx and Radeon
HD3xxx products.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky – performance gains of 6 to 18% in single card settings and 10 to 30% in CrossfireX mode. Performance gains were noticed on all Radeon HD04xxx and Radeon HD3xxx products.
 
Maybe its just me but in Fallout 3 AA is working for 4x. Or is it just the placebo effect..someone confirm pls. Mouse lag improved a bit.

Side Note: I didn't run driver cleaner just uninstalled and rebooted. Drivers problems = ZERO
 
I just noticed that the drivers for ATi have the .** as the month. Is that just a coincidence or is that on purpose. 8.10 out in Oct, 8.11 out in Nov yada yada.

You just noticed that? They have been doing it for at least a few years now...:p
 
:( I was hoping for a bit more. Namely maybe a couple of new, meaningful feature additions, and more performance improvements other than the hotfixes that were already released, but oh well.

Is it the same with every release? Just general bug fixes? I just got my first ATI since 9200 so I'm not sure how the driver changelog generally is
 
this is amazing news for me, was actually going to install vista tonite with my new hard drive. PERFECT timing.

That's about it, yeah, but still - compare it to other vendors. Sure, it's just a handful of bug fixes, new feature or two, game or two with performance increases...

But it's an official driver release. Every month.

Showing and Hiding the ATI CrossFireX™ Logo

When ATI CrossFireX support is enabled, you can choose to show the ATI CrossFireX logo when running 3D applications in full screen mode. This logo appears in the top-right corner of the screen to indicate that ATI CrossFireX support is enabled. When ATI CrossFireX support is disabled, no logo is shown.

Note: This feature is available for ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 series and later graphics cards for which the ATI CrossFireX technology is supported and enabled.

1. Right-click the ATI logo in the Windows® system tray.

2. In the menu that appears, select the graphics card corresponding to the Display GPU for your ATI CrossFireX configuration, select CrossFireX Settings, and then do one of the following:

- Select Show CrossFireX Status Icon (Where Applicable)—The ATI CrossFireX logo appears whenever ATI CrossFireX is supported and enabled for your system. When ATI CrossFireX support is disabled, the logo does not appear.

- Clear Show CrossFireX Status Icon (Where Applicable)—The ATI CrossFireX icon is hidden at all times, even when ATI CrossFireX is enabled.
 
Sounds like they added some image scaling options. Hopefully this will fix my overscanning issue with my HD3450 on my TV @ 1920x1080.
 
Any benchmarks on these?

Apparently benchmarks are so unuser friendly that no one ever goes through the trouble of doing any.
 
Anyone know if this fixed the GPU hanging utilization on startup? The one where GPU1 likes to hang at some wierd %?
 
Should the CrossFireX indicator thing work with the x2 cards? I'm not really all that informed on how exactly the x2's relate to CFX, but I'd think that this feature would apply to them as well. I only ask because I don't see that option in the menu and I'm running a 4870x2.
 
will try these out on the L4D demo....hopefully I can run full 8x and 16x AA, w/ the 8.10's I kept locking up =(
 
8.11 gave me an additional 50 points on 3DMARK06 :p
Other than that nothing significant but my games run much smother now with no jerkiness (RA3, COD:WaW, UT3)
 
Upgraded, did not notice a difference (yet). Here's hoping it fixes my crashes in L4D.
 
upgraded to 8.11 and now i cant access ati overdrive. it says "capabilities have not been properly initialized yet. please try again later" WTF. :mad:

I think the L4D crashes in on Valves end. Everyone I've played with has had crashing and that spans over Nvidia, ATI, AMD, and Intel hardware.
 
just in case anyone was wondering the ATIkdmag.sys blue screens are not fixed with 8.11...got one right after restarting 8.11.

ATI is fail. I'm so disappointed with this card the drivers are complete an utter crap and now i cant even turn down my frickin fan.
 
fixed CCC overdrive...had to reflash to stock bios for some reason...

still pissed about the BSOD though.

Yes, ATi is a failure for your problem that isn't affecting me, so how is it a universal ati issue

Search google, or check out the amd forums on it.

There is 100+ page thread on it. A lot of people are having that problem.

It's not just ati, there is a similar one for nvidia cards.

Where is this 100 page thread? A link would help this is my google search, it looks pretty obscure to me, I get thread started in 2006 as first on hit list.

I can get better results finding info on "toenail snagging my socks problem" I get when I don't clip them.



BTW: looking further into it try Disabling crappy Vista junk like Aero and UAC
