OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD - $178.99 AR, %5 Bing Cashback, $1.99 Shipping (Tax in some)

Refresh this page enough times and you'll see a 10.3% Tiger cashback banner.

The new price works out to be: $220 - $30 MIR = $190 - 10.3% cashback = $167.34 (+ $1.99 S/H)

:p

Now that's getting tempting...but I'm interested in seeing how the Vertex Turbo will compare to the almighty X25-M (performance and price wise).

I got a 1TB hard drive for $70 at amazon, not seeing how this is a good deal. Not unless you like to spend extra cash for no reason :p

What is the access time on that $70 1TB hard drive you have? I bet it isn't .1ms.....It is a good deal unless you are an ignorant thread crapper.

OMFG you got a 1TB HDD for $70?!?!?!
I bet you think the Velociraptors at $150 are a better deal than the Vertex at $170 too:rolleyes:

Please people that buy SSD's dont buy them for size ya know.
Its about access times, and IOPS.

This is an awesome deal Im in for one.

These are very nice drives, I have one in my main rig. I am thinking about a second one now.

They had the Vertex for $200 shipped with a 15% cashback for $170 total, at TigerDirect a couple weeks ago.

I found two of these in RAID 0 not to be worth the upgrade over my Samsung 64GB SLC SSD, so I'll be returning them. The main boost of an SSD comes from its near-non-existent access times.

Exactly the sequential writes....while looks kickass on benches for your e-peen....does not exactly translate into real world performance improvements for most tasks.

This is [H] deals, not Genmay. How you feel about people that own the drive is irrelevant.

Whichever way you slice it, this is currently a good deal on a 60gb Vertex.

And since i forgot in my original post... Thanks for posting OP

Whats up your ass?
Never said it was a bad deal....actually I remember saying that it was an awesome deal, and that I am in 1.

I never said anything about people that own the drive. Some guy said that two for R0 is pointless because it does not lower access times is where these really shine.

I agreed with that and went on to explain why getting more than one is pointless when it comes to real world performance.

Sorry man, talk about brain farts and reading stuff out of context

Exactly. E-peen city. How fast do you people need to access your porn, sheesh :p

I need to access my porn pretty quickly, my wife only gives me 30 seconds man, I need to grab my video, get it up and in way fast, and for times like those, SSD's are the only option.

the 120 has a $40 rebate
the 120 GB verison is only $344 ( or $2.86/GB for the 120 versus $2.98/GB for the 60)

All you mouth breathers talking about no real performance increase have obviously never used a good SSD drive before.

i will be smart about it. and wait until the price's drop some more. my 500gb hdd does the job for me :D

It depends how much time you spend on the computer. Honestly, if time = money and you use this drive for 2 years, imagine all the time you save waiting for programs to load and the computer to boot :)

If it's a laptop... it's a no brainer, these save SO much time unless you leave your system in standby so it boots up instantly.

I'm getting to the point where I play very few games on my computer. When I do have time to game it's usually on xbox with friends since most don't play computer games anymore. Really looking forward to C&C4, SC2, and Diablo3 though... but I have a feeling a decent laptop will play any of those fine.

I'm thinking about hanging up the huge gaming PC and giant monitor and buying a really nice laptop (maybe 13" not big not small), swapping the optical bay for a 500gb drive, and putting a 120gb Vertex as the main drive.

Screw StarCraft 2. If more of us banded together and boycotted their anti-LAN crap maybe they'd put that support back. I bought StarCraft for full price when it came out. I bought WarCraft II full price when it came out. Then after a bunch of my CDs got stolen at school I bought StarCraft again. Then I bought the expansions. Then I bought WC3. Then I bought THAT expansion. Every single one has been played at a LAN party or over Hamachi (internet LAN). I can't imagine a killer RTS that doesn't support LAN games, especially Blizzard with their huge legacy. BOYCOTT SC2!!!

/rant

Considering current prices and performance of SSDs this is actually a solid price. They're half what they were when they first came out, and I don't think you'll find a cheaper drive with this capacity that will perform as well. Not right now anyways.

The speed of the drive would be the deal.

SSD > HDD performance

Its not always about size. ;)

It's still a drive that could barley fit my OS for $220 up front. Not a bad deal but I'm still waiting for the 128gb drives to drop in price a bit before I pick one up.

Windows takes anywhere from 4-10GB depending on version and setup. I'm not aware of any Linux installs offhand that take 64GB?

Yep. SSDs are worth *every* penny and even more when it comes to direct drive audio sample streaming.

But how many mouth breathers know what that is? ;]

Thanks OP!

Yeah I don't know why but Vista x64 with my anti-virus and a couple of other little apps seems to take up more than it should. I just don't want to have to worry about manageing my drive space for my os drive. This is a good deal don't get me wrong but one of those 128GB drives would be perfect for me. I didn't mean to do any thread crapping with that post.

NP, I misinterpretted. Basically to slim down Windows all you have to do is disable hibernation (about 5gb of space), system restore (a few gb), and a couple other things for an SSD are recommended (drive indexing, defrag, etc. since they aren't needed, MLC drives most recommend moving the page file off of).

I have 8gb of ram so I have no problem turning off the page file and I've never used Hibernation or system restore. I already have defrag turned off. Anyways, would it be cool to run JKdefrag on the SSD every once in a while? Would it even make a difference with the nearly no access times? Sorry for the OT, I've just been wondering about that for a while.

Never, ever defrag an SSD. BAD.

How many people know what a mouth breather is?

BTW: This is the last day the rebate is good... so if you were thinking about pulling the trigger today is your last chance.
