ocz power supply problems.

i have a 700w ocz that wont even power on my system any more but powers my 4400+ machine just fine.

the mobo light comes on and fans spin very very slow but it wont turn on. when i put my 520w modstream in here it works just fine but the psu makes a pretty loud hissing sound (not the fan).

what gives?

edit: now the 700w in the 4400+ machine won't provide power to the hard drives, 520w is still hissing.

when you plug it into the other machine,
1) how long have you ran it for in the 4400? (do a Pi stress test overnight or something that is power intesive)
2) how much more stuff do you have in the new one?
3) do you have a volt meter? (20 bucks at sears)

check every pigtail coming from the OCZ, make sure it has power. both when nothing is connected, and when it is powering the 4400.
 
Well, clearly there is something wrong with it. RMA it back to OCZ if you still have time left on your warranty. If not, then purchase a new and good-quality PSU to replace it with.

What's a good brand these days that is not OCZ? Something affordable and reliable to run my specs.

Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, Antec (not Basiq, TP1, TPII, or SP series), PC P&C etc.

What's your definition of "affordable"? In other words, what is your budget for this new PSU?
 
OCZ power supplies are known for problems that are well documented but downplayed by their employees, check out the forums. One good thing about them is they won't take out components when they go poof. I did get a PCP&C Quad silencer 750 when they sent me an RMA replacement OCZ 600 Stealthstream that also had a noisy fan and an electrical buzzing sound on the second RMA, guess I shouldn't complain too much.
