OCing an SLI system question

Dumb question incoming:

I am wondering how much of an increase is OCing my GTX 570s in SLI. Say for single card setup, I OC from 800 to 850mhz and that yields me 5 avg frames per second increase. If I OC from 800 to 850mhz on SLI setup, would I see a total 8-10 avg frames per second increase? Because I don't want to OC it further if it's diminishing returns for OCing a SLI setup vs single card OC.
 
10fps increase from 20fps? No.

10fps increase from 300fps? Yeah, probably.

Why don't you just do it and find out?
 
Since most SLi is alternate frame rendering anyway, the increase you see in a single card will most likely be identical in two card........if not slightly lower due to the complexity of the dual card communication.:D

Most GPU overclocking yields pretty meager increases as a rule.

800->850MHz is a 6.25% increase, so your theoretical maximum increase at 80fps is 5fps. In practice it's going to be less.

I think it should work out to something like (overclock %) x (avg GPU utilisation %), which of course is going to vary from game to game. So if your GPUs are sitting at around 75% (assuming this is due to limited scaling and not a CPU bottleneck), it'll get you around 3.75fps.

But like I said... Just do it, see what you get, and decide if it's worth it.
 
Well, the stock clock for a GTX 570 is 732 MHz, so really even at 800 you're already overclocked. Going to 850 is a decent OC. I've got mine both at 800 right now and haven't noticed a huge difference, but there's not really a temperature difference either so it's fine.
