Hey all,

I'm planning a new A64 (winny or venice if is out when I pull the trigger). I want to overclock the cpu but I want to go conservative on the RAM and chipset.

So my question is, are the CPU multipliers locked on A64's these days? Or can I run a divider and OC the CPU while leaving the rest of the platform at stock speeds?

Thank you!

the athlon64 multiplier's are locked upwards, so if you buy a 3200+, it's max multiplier is 10x. but thanks to cool-n-quiet, they're downwards unlocked, so you can run the 3200+ at 9x, 8x, 7x, etc (if you still need to push your memory, but you hit your cpu's max frequency).

so, if you dont wanna buy expensive ram, then you can just use the memory dividers, which doesnt impact performance that much.
