First my rig is:

Abit AA8XE
Intel 3.2 P4 540j
Speeze ChillMax 775 Pentium 4 CPU cooler
1gb OCZ DDR2 533 Value ram
460W Akasa UQuiet PSU
160GB Maxtor SATA +10 8/7200

Have so far upped fsb to 240, giving me a

fsb of 948mhz
p4 3.8gig
ddr2 632 mhz

cpu core v = 1.4125
DDII ram v = 1.8
NBV = 1.50

CPU idle temp of 50c (i've just bought some artic silver & will use that instead of the generic stuff that came with the HSF, hopefully it should bring the temp down?)
sys temp of 38c

I was hoping to push the p4 upto 3.9-4gig, put when i up the fsb to 245 the pc posts ok but windows hangs. I tried upping the cpu core voltage a couple of notches & upped the ddII ram voltage but same thing happened. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Also, i can check the cpu, case temp & fan speeds in the bios ok but once in windows xp i can't check any temps because
1.) my abit uguru software won't run (error xml initial failed, no support for this model),
2.) hardware doctor won't run (run time error 52, bad file name or no)
3.) Sis soft sandra can't detect the cpu temp or fan speed, they're just blank
4.) H monitor just shows xxx for cpu temp.

Any help would be much appreciated!

ok, i have sorted out the hardware monitoring problem. Winbond hardware doctor was conflicting with abit uguru eq. Once i uninstalled it, eq was fine!

Still having problems getting to 3.9 gig though.

That HSF is probably your problem. You might need a high end air cooler (XP-90) or water cooling to get much higher than that.

Ok, memory timings were 4-4-4-12, but i've currently got them at 4-3-3-8, & the divider is at 3:4. I'll try a different divider & loosen the timings back to stock. Also i'll try some artic silver on the hsf, as my brother just dropped his cpu temp by 7c just by changing it from generic compound to artic silver (2.4c p4 clocked to 2.9gig) !
