Well, everytime I search on [H] my IE crashes :(. Buddy of mine gave me Oblivion + the expansion pack. I have never played Oblivion before, but I have heard that there are a ton of mods.

I am wondering if you guys would be nice enough to link some of the good game mods for me. Basically, I am looking to get the best possible looking graphics out of the game :), I hear it's quite good.

There are a lot of graphical mods out there. I've never tried them but i hear good things about them.
Tons of weapon and armor mods out there that add new items. Get a house mod. I like the ones with lots of display space. I have my own personal army of manikins decked out in various armors and weapons.

If anything I'd just play for a day or two and then scan the mods list for what looks interesting.

Make sure you read the descriptions. I dislike item mods that replace things, i'd rather have them added and not overwrite the originals or possibly things other people have done.

Thanks, any mods that you would recommend? I was looking at http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=810333
not sure if it is any good.

Yes that mod is a must for me. May want to try QTP3 Redimized: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3813

Good site for textures: http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/obliviontextureoverhaul

There are too many great mods to recommend, IMO. Browse around the forums as there are some good mod lists there that should get you started. Some of my favorites are: Lost Spires (new guild/questline), Oblivion Mod Mananger, OBSE (if a mod you use requires it), Marts Monster Mod (bunch of new monsters + more), Unique Landscape mods, Deadly Reflex (more combat moves).

The ones I use for practicality are:
Key Chain
Packhorses

The others that I use:
Imperial Furniture
Crafting Skill Engine(Archer)
Palace of Vanuur Shuur(spl?)
Retro's Fletching and Imbueing
Reznod's Mannequin
Sin's Light Armor Mod

Currently DLing:
Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul

If you want any, lemme know and I can upload them for ya.

Thanks, I will install the game here shortly and try it without mods. Then will try the one I linked to compare.

Nice. I always have trouble finding quality mods for oblivion. Anybody have any suggestions for high rez textures or high quality lighting?

http://www.tesnexus.com/
Here's a place I'd recommend.
Don't go mod crazy though. If you download many mods that change gameplay behavior, you'll eventually run into mod conflicts which will, quite simply, crash your game.
OOO, for example, is one of the big ones which change numerous aspects of the game.

I tried that overhaul mod for the oblivion, must have played the game for good 2 hours without notcicing it :p.

Thus far game is awesome. To me it really does show it's age however. Tree's do not look all that cool, distant objects are a bit unimpressive and grass, specially from the distance, looks very grainy.

And OOO 1.33 just came out, so a good time for those that have never used it to try it out.

Does the overhaul include graphical improvements? Anything that's specifically cool about it, like thief class updates(knocking people out, more sneaking tactics)? I've heard good things, but never anything past minor changes that don't interest me.

Thanks for the link above for the other mods. There are so many to choose from, I'm a bit confused

I really like BTMod and Immersive Interface. They work well to 'deconsolefy' the user interface. A necessity in my opinion.

The only other mods that I'm currently using are texture replacement mods so that I can make distant surfaces look less blurry. Doesn't change the game at all; it just makes things look better.

The newer version of BTMod is called DarnUI or something like that.

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul made some changes I didn't like (can't remember exactly what right now) so I'm using Francesco's mod instead, along with some of the natural wilderness stuff and the Harvest Flora mod. Also using the Arrow Forge mod which allows you to make enchanted arrows using a system similar to alchemy. Make playing an archer much more fun.

Definitely get a mod manager before you even begin using mods. It can save you a lot of trouble and heart ache. I used Oblivion Mod Manager, but I think Wyre Bash also manages mod (don't remember).

I'm also more partial to Martigen's Monster Mod + Francesco's Mod versus Oscuro's Overhaul.

The most popular mod I've made is Diverse City Guards, which makes the guards in the different cities more diverse. I didn't like the idea that they only changed colors and emblems on their chain mail and shields. http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11211

Eventine Shangea continued my work and released a beta of the new diverse city guards mod late last year: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=782016

There are quite a number of gameplay additions seeing as it is a conglomeration of many other mods. There is a whole set of Amazon caves, several new sets of unique armors and weapons, graphical enhancements for harvesting, bottles and potions, inebriation, an entirely new security rebalancing with bashing locks, revamped combat behaviors, entirely new system of leveling (which I use combined with other systems as well), new effects for magic and enchantments, map marker changes, new perks for master skills...
honestly just download it and install it. Just about everyone will agree that it is the one thing that everyone should have as a mod... or one of the others like it like MMM or Francesco's.
You can always just install the lite version and choose only the addons that you want for OOO.

Thanks for all of the links, man am I confused now. So many to choose from. I tried that OOO 1.3 and as I mentioned I still do not like the draw distance when you are outside. Any specific mods that could solve such issue?

It's quite simple to change. Go to your oblivion ini (my docs/my games/oblivion) and change uGridsToLoad=5 to a higher odd number (not even). You can change a few of the other settings as well. I believe tweakguides has a piece about this.

OOO 1.3 is not suppose to be in your face noticeable. In fact, that is why it is so popular. So many of the changes are behind the scenes that aren't completely apparent but do wonders for gameplay.

May I also suggest the unofficial patches (Oblivion, SI, and official mods). Thousands of errors are fixed.

Could you elaborate on the unofficial patches please.

Just don't do the uGridstoload thing if you're going to use the unofficial patch, as it tweaks it anyway; doing both will cause a fuckup.

I'm finally trying oblivion for the first time with my new rig. I haven't played it yet but I'm thinking that I will be using probably Oscuro's Overhaul since the idea of all the world leveling up with me constantly just seems kind of lame.

Question: Do you guys think I should play vanilla Oblivion first or just start using some of the mods right off the bat?

I highly suggest you play vanilla first. You don't have to do the main quest, but give the game a good try and see what you dislike and like.
