Sorry, but that's ridiculous. It was simply a supply issue brought about by underestimation of demand for the holiday season in the run-up to Fermi launch. Call it a supply drought "bubble".
Its not a supply issue where Nvidia was suddenly floored by the demand, Nvidia cut down on stocks of GTX card long before the holiday season hit. The GTX architecture cards came out in like June of 2008, Nvidia could have ramped up the production if they wanted too, its not new tech. Nvidia is not stupid, they know how the market works and if they could have flooded the retail channels with GTX cards they were selling for a profit, they would have.
