nVidia Tforce-Looks promising

Im glad theyre bringing back soundstorm, that was the best onboard sound ive ever had.

Definitely :p Though I concentrate on hardware features rather than overclocking stuff, as I'm mainly interested in the TForce for a HTPC upgrade.

I might have to get me a new SFF with all these fancy features coming out. The packard doesnt have any special features, well it does have half-decent onboard audio and video and modem, but that was only cool 10 years ago.

Dammit, And I remember when we bought the 386 packard brand new with the 1x cdrom and the 5mb of ram... Didnt seem like too long ago. This one is even newer, socket 7...

Awesome! I just might, I am sooo sick of this P.O.S ECS RS480 and I am staying far away from any ATI chipset right now... I might just have to order this.

afaik, soundstorm used ac97 with a hardware dolby digital decoder :p

soundstorm was a hardware based sound solution, ac97 codec is software.

but its still decoded by hardware - not software. like any other sound device, its ac97 compliant - that doenst meant it relies on software to do encoding for it.

Fair enough, I suppose, but I've looked all OVER the place and can find NO reference to DDL on the new chipsets.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing particular about the audio at all - IE., no audio capability in the chipset like the nForce2 had.

Instead, it's up to the mobo makers to pair the audio-less "tForce" north- and south- bridges up with vanilla AC'97 audio, or an 'Azalia' high-definition-audio solution.

nor did soundstorm-1 utilize ac97 for DD output.

DD was outputted via digital ports, bypassing ac97 altogether.

nice wish, but did you catch the date of that article? December 8, 2004 :( nVidia cancelled soundstorm 2 many moons ago. we had a nice long thread about it (glances at the search function somewhat forlorn)

i never said the new sets had DDL?

(someone else said something about SS using ac'97, when every sound device is ac'97 compliant.)

..Found specs on the Asus A8N-VM CSM, looks pretty schweet..

Finally some good mATX mobos by the big manufacturers. Cant wait until the Asus and MSI offerings are out. :p
 
Is the Asrock K9NF4G-SATA2 socket M2? This thought is based off the naming convention.

Nice to see the nVidia beating the ATI in video performance, I'd like to see a 6150 put against the Jetway pro to see if how much of a difference the onboard memory makes.

if youre talking about K9, K9 is generally reguarded to be the X2, but AMD has dropped the "Kx" naming convention

Socket 939 if anything. I've only seen this board mentioned in a single place, so take it as a very vague rumor for now.
 
Anybody know how these boards will perform compared to nforce 4? I'm not interested in using the onboard graphics, but I am interested in the overall system performance.
 
Considering the T-Force is an nVidia chipset, i would imagine it should work very similarly. Only time and benchmarks......

The question i have is, is there any chance we'll be seeing AGP support on a TForce board? I fear i already know the answer to this, but i have to put it out there. (yeah i know , its nvidia we're talking bout here)
