I have always owned ATI, ever since 3dfx anyway.... :) I have a 7800gt, ready to overclock this bad boy.... What programs are out there to use? Someone mentioned Coolbits? Is that the best option? If so, where do I get it? Thanks guys.
 
just google coolbits, it's a small .reg file, just double click it and it will install...

you can also get rivatuner if you wanna really tweak it, you can google that to i suppose
 
Rivatuner allows 'higher' overclocks than what coolbits will allow.

Coolbits makes you 'test' the speed first, rivatuner does not.

That's not true, Rivatuner requires you test clocks before applying as well, you can get around it by changing a value in power user settings but unless you do Rivatuner still requires testing.

yes as far as I know the only way to unlock pipes is with Rivatuner (I dont know much about the 7800series so I cant say whether or not they are unlockable, I read a threadthat said it was not able but I dont know) also rivatuner lets you have at it with all sorts of thing dealing with your card, but be aware that it is fairly easy to "do" bad things, dont be naughty with rivatuner. I use rivatuner to monitor and log temps, whilst coolbits I use for my overclocking.
coolbits will also detect an overclock to use as a base setting and you can take it from there where as rivatuner will allow a use to define a clock and just test it for you but the real test is whilst you are in game or bench.

Yeah, only thing I don't like about Cool Bits.
 
I used coolbits and I did the detect optimal frequencies. it set it up for core - 565mhz and memory - 1.13 ghz.

Anyone know how good hte detect optimal frequencies thing is? It tested it and I choose for the fan to always stay on.

I have the MSI 6600GT good speed for it?

that looks accurate

I have had my 6800 clocked past its optimal settings since day 1 with no problems

With coolbits it oc'd my card by detecting optimal settings to 563/1130, I lowered that by 10mhz on the core and memory, fired up BF2, artifacting right away, closed BF2 and went back to stock. I don't feel like risking my card finding a safe OC for a small performance increase.
