If you follow NVIDIA on Twitter you already know that the first two Fermi cards will be the GeForce GTX 470 and GeForce GTX 480. Hey, no GTX 3xxx series?

Fun Fact of the Week: GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 will be the names of the first two GPUs shipped based on our new GF100 chip!

Sorry Steve, but I won't lay my hands on twitter anymore. I used it only to promote my linux site for a while then abandoned it :D Then again, you catch good tidbits like this ^. Good news though, but a GTX 3xxx? I wish GPU numberings systems were better @.@

Ah the good ol' numbering prank. I bet Charlie is in Santa Clara right now about to release pigs labeled 1, 2, and 4 inside of NV headquarters just to watch them scramble to hunt down the one labeled 3 :D

 ... O.M.G. ...

In one fell swoop, Nvidia just LEAPFROGGED a generation ahead of AMD!!!!!

Cower under your computer tables, AMD fanbois, because NOW it's going to be a frickin benchmark MASSACRE :D

BBQ'd cypress nuts anyone?

There is a 3xx series, although it appears to just be for notebooks. Like the 1xx series. They are probably just slightly modified 2xx series mobile GPUs. Since we know nvidia loves to slap a new name on the something that is no different.

More talks... still no actual card/spec or any useful information.

They decided not to use the 3xx's because they wanted tho name of the cards to not be synonymous with the power usage if the cards.

Nvidia is already generation behind. It's all marketing so gimme a break. They're trying to make customers feel like they are getting something from the distant future. It's still DX11, nothing more nothing less. When the ATI refresh is launched at a cheaper price point and then the 6800 series is announced later this year, you're going to be back in the same situation that you are in now. Wondering what Nvidia will do to beat ATI once again.

Actually, it makes Scene,

They are using Even Numbers for their Retail products, Odd for their OEM ones..

Gotta hand it to you Kyle. Back in November or December you said we won't see Fermi until at least February and here we are.

I bet few people here knew that there was a Geforce 100 series? They are OEM only cards with older gpu's. Nvidia is doing the same thing with the 300 series it looks like. It actually does make sense. They are trying not to associate Fermi with the older series 300 oem cards.

Actually AMD will soon introduce the Radeon HD 6780. It will have 1601 Stream Processors running at 851 MHz and 1025MB GDDR5 at 4.81GHz! It will be manufactured on the 39nm process :eek::eek:

Just tell us how much the darn things are gonna cost...does anybody really care what numbers you put in the cards name?

Agreed Bulldozer.

I've been biding my time and it finally looks like its time to upgrade. I just hope the new cards don't suck in addition to being expensive.

That's probably because expreview's been serving up trojan-infested ads and shiz for a while.

For awhile? No, they haven't. Some people were having what appeared to be false positives with their AV just this once the other day, and you're going around slamming the site as fake/virus-infested? Get serious .

Also, the EXPreview site is different than the pc.watch thing he was trying to link, so I don't even know how your statement makes any sense as to the situation here.

So is nVidia going to try to retcon the 3000 series into existence hoping that no one noticed they skipped a cycle and got their butts handed to them by ATI?

If they release the 3000 cards at the same time as the 4000 cards, and then pretend they've been out all along... then they didn't actually loose to ATI in 2009 did they? Right? Right?

But he also said we would have Radeon 5XXX cards with only the mini display port by now.. :p

I think ATI overestimated the value of display port. just not that many people can use them and the adapters are really expensive. They may go ahead and bring it out when Fermi comes out

sigh whatever Nvidia I just bought your GTX275 so you can count me out for the next couple generations.
