First off ive used more nvidia based cards than ati . I prefer ATI though overall. Anywho im really pissed at nvidia tell me if you agree. Like i said Im using ATI and have NO need for Physx drivers anywhere on "MY" Pc. Uninstall it? ya right your games dont work then. I think there needs to be some kinda of oh wait he's using an ATI card "dont" install physx drivers option or feature. Funny ive never ever seen ATI install any funny drivers not needed for anything ever..is there anyone or anyway to lose the useless drivers without messing my games with software thats never going to used or wanted on "my" Pc. Speak up and help me out from wasted useless drivers i cant uninstall without messing up my games.

You should probably do a bit more research before you post.

First.. it's not a driver. The driver component to this is in the NVIDIA GPU driver so you wouldn't have or need it if you're not running hardware acceleration.

Secondly, you absolutely *DO* need PhysX software installed because without it your games which use PhysX won't work.. not just because they choose not to, but because the game is doing PhysX on the CPU, and that's the baseline some developers use (the same as they might Havok). Without these files the game literally couldn't even do a basic rigid body effect on the CPU.. the same as if you had removed the havok files from your Havok-based game directory.

It's not installing a driver.. just system software libraries. It's no different from Havok, except havok's files are distributed by the game developer themselves, inside the game directory so you don't see them being installed by a separate installer, or showing up in the add/remove programs list the way you do with PhysX.

OMG YOU HAVE HAD HAVOK FILES ON YOUR SYSTEM ALL ALONG! HOW DARE THEY!

Who said you *need* PhysX software installed? Even if you've got an Nvidia card and have games that support PhysX you should have the option to not install PhysX (and not use PhysX at all).

Do you have the option to not install Havok in Havok games? It's no different to having to install DirectX or OpenCL libraries or any other library for that matter.

How do you expect a game that uses the PhysX physics engine to run the PhysX physics engine on your CPU without the PhysX software installed?

you should have the option to not install PhysX (and not use PhysX at all).

Then any game that uses PhysX as a physics engine would not be able to run...you would literally be ripping the physics engine out of the game.

Don't want PhysX on your system? Don't install any games that use it as a physics engine.
Don't want Havok on your system? Don't install any games that use it as a physics engine.
Don't want ODE on your system? Don't install any games that use it as a physics engine.

This isn't a tough concept, people...

I think the question should be if you can run PhysX off your cpu then why do you need an nvidia card ;)

It takes the load off of the processor giving you better framerates. Why give the CPU more work than it's already doing when there is a fully capable processor that handles it just as well, if not better, on the GPU and it's already included on the card?

I thought PhysX required an Nvidia GPU. I guess I was wrong. I stand corrected. :)

My original post was being sarcastic btw that's why the smiley so was my dx11 post.

I sincerely hope fermi is good, i haven't heard anything giood about it for a long time but i still hope it is.

My favourtie gfx card is an nvidia card (geforce 1).

true.. or you could get technical and say its 100% impossible to remove the physX software from windows 7 because its comes with the 186.16 drivers that are in the offline(built in) driver database that comes with the OS.. :p guess he gets to stick with wonderful xp or vista now.. lol

Don't the games install the needed files? Is that what you're uninstalling?

not only did you NOT answer MY question, you rambled OFF the subject and came to NO conclusion.

It was posted, if you don't want the evil cootie infested PhysX drivers, you'll have to choose games that don't use them.

physX is eyecandy. propritary expensive eyecandy that actually doesnt really add much. Its not like AA where it can effect your gameplay.

ATI cards car use hacked physX drivers but you need a nvidia card to run it which makes it expensive for some random shit flying around your screen. its pointless.

AA is eyecandy. How does it affect the game where other eyecandy doesn't?

have you ever tried to snipe without AA? or make long range shots when everything is all edges? it makes it really hard to pic out details. more so on smaller res screens, but it does effect gameplay, at least for me.

You don't know iinstinct x Seb, do you?

There are lots of gamers out there that are FPS queens, they crank their settings way DOWN in order to have a "competative advantage." I think its ridiculous, but hey, if it gives 'em their jollies then so be it.

I am also not a fan of games installing things that aren't necessary. Not with the physx software, since those are just libraries essentially, but I think I have about 20 copies of Visual C++ 2005 Redist on my system now.
