NVIDIA GK104 Coming Soon?

That would be a serious kick in AMD's nuts, if true.
The two companies tend to do that to each other. ;)

I just have a hard time believing nvidia's 28nm products will arrive soon. AMD and nvidia have been out of sync on new GPU releases for a while.

What means out of sync. Out of sync is a timeframe like 6 months or so - comparable to NV30 or Fermi. But everything in a 2 to 3 months timeframe is acceptable. You cannot expect that companies of that size in such a business are working 100% in the same frequency.

Remember the GTX 460?

Every now and then nvidia releases great budget cards, but I'm not sure GK104 will be the case.

This, I'm running two 2GB GTX560s in sli which are more or less an overclocked GTX460 and I can play BF3 maxed out at 1920x1080. The performance in all of the games that I've tried is impressive.

your 560 SLI is working great...

and that's why you're THIS-ing GK104 not being great budget card WTFFFFF?

Tired of Nvidia being so late to the party the past couple years.

How are they late if THEY never give a concrete answer when the product is truly launching? Whats the difference any ways? See how late AMD was with updated drivers for BF3, Skyrim, and Batman AC? 2 months before something really stable?? Nvidia, BAM! Day 1 of game launch. After years of these driver debacles of AMD, I will gladly wait for the Nvidia card and Launch drivers. Really? Whats kicking our cards asses from the GTX470 to the Radeon 6970 that quantifies being in a "hurry". There isn't a game out you can't play on high settings on those graphics cards from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080. Let both companys take their time and get Hardware(Nvidia) and Drivers(ATI) right. Relax. ;)

And since everyone seems to be throwing numbers out of their ass, I am going to say that GTX 680Ti Ultimate Ass-Grabbing Nut Slapping Edition is 40% faster than Radeon 7970 Fusion Assisted Particle Time Excellerator Edition. 660Ti will be 8% faster than 580 in real world tests. LOL. See, I can do it too! :p

Nvidia was mostly in sync with ATI on releases for a number of years. New cards were out every fall. Now Nvidia is 6 months late on everything.

If you want a new Nvidia card now you have buy a year old card based on two year old technology. The GTX 580 was launched November 2010 and was a revision of an existing card. Get the new stuff out already. I need something to replace this GTX 460.

Where exactly is it written that the two companies have to release products in lock-step with each other? They have different schedules, budgets and priorities. If it makes you feel better you can pretend AMD is also 6 months late to nVidia's 6 month's late response.

The 580 beat the 6970 to market and was faster and still is faster than what AMD has. Seems they are doing fine.

Just because AMD paper launched the 7970 does not mean anything really, the latest rumor puts Kepler in the first quarter as well. No doubt it will also be faster.

Smooth sailing if you ask me.

I'd love to see the on the top card power usage less then 570, but more oomph then 590. I'll be happy white bunny of Caerbannog then :D

I would rather have power usage of a GTX 590 but blow it away tbh. Power consumption is for softies when it comes to high end GPU's. Mid range, sure power usage is important, but not high end.

...

This is driving me nuts. Can anyone explain what "THIS-ing" is, even approximately?

Edit: ...NVM... sorry... I've solved it. It makes sense now... I couldn't fathom how "this" had become a gerund, but then I remembered that the singular word is often an entire response, indicating agreement with a quoted selection. I scrolled up and found the reference.

ye... my fault sorry,

grrrr.. nothing pisses me off like a post quoting another one in its entirety and just adding THIS at the bottom...
not even u mad, cool story bro, or pasting other peoples GIFs

Wish I had the ability to see into the future. Must be nice

So pretty much nobody has any real idea on when anything is coming or how it will compare to other cards.

I read how this new card could be even faster than a GTX 580. If Nvidia could really pull this off for under $300 it could very well put AMD's entire line-up in a lot of trouble.

But to be honest, it sounds way too good to be true. And it seems we still have to wait quite some time for these cards.

That it does. I dont expect the GK104 to be anything great. Just another budget card. I am just waiting to see how their high performance cards will compare to those from ATI.

I don't think that a 300$ card will be faster than GTX580.

So far AMD is showing great results with over clocking 28nm gpus. If NVIDIA can do the same I think a $300 card will be able to beat GTX580 with some 28nm OC ability.

GTX 460>GTX 285

GTX 260>8800 GTX/9800 GTX

What is so hard to believe about that?

Yeah, pretty much. I honestly wouldn't expect any less. As a GTX560 sli user I'm really interested in GK104. I used to be one of those single gpu people but I'm really impressed with what I've seen from my midrange cards in sli.

More recent history tells us differently. GTX480=GTX570. I would expect GTX670=GTX580 but at much lower power, and GTX680 to be 20-30% faster at 10% lower power since it's not new architecture like the 4xx series was. So, 10% faster than 7970 but 20% more power draw. I ate some general tso chicken last night and my heartburn induced dreams tell me GTX670 will release in March.

GTX480=GTX570. I would expect GTX670=GTX580 but at much lower power.

Last I checked gpu makers weren't on a giant push to make high-end enthusiast cards have much lower power and the 670 won't be targeted to the 'low-power' crowd. If a chip comes back with much lower power it's called time to crank up the clock speeds.

Nvidia 500 series was just the more complete version of the 400 series chips. Moving from 500 => 600 series will be NOTHING like moving from 400 => 500 series. Making a 500 series chip on 28nm process would make a chip HALF it's original size. Having the 660 (plus/minus ti) perform within 10% or so either way from a 580 seems pretty reasonable.

we will see. kepler is not a new architecture, as far as I know is only a die shrink,

You will realize very soon that this is not true :D

GTX560 isn't faster than GTX480 :)

GTX560 was just part of a refresh product line compared to the 4xx product line. Neither was it a new architecture nor a shrink on a new manufacturing process node. The Kepler series will be again both. Definatly different from FERMI and with 28nm a new process node.

I think GK104 will be somewhere in the GTX580 performance range. Maybe 10 to 15% + in gaming. As this is only their performance GPU it is not hard to guess that GK110 will be somewhat faster.

I doubt we see or hear anything before at least March. That was the impression I'd been under with this for a while.

Some guy that knows a guy told me that.

I think it is likely that we might hear already some official words during next week and i am more than convinced that if we don't hear anything official during next week, that here and there some leaks will appear in January going forward.

LOL...are you absolutely sure about your indecisiveness?

I don't know about all that but your freakin link just made Norton go off about a fake app attack on my pc. Haven't had something like that since [H] was under attack last year.

Thanks for the heads-up... was about to click...
