Nvidia for life

WTF? My Windows 7 has never gone over 650-750 MB unless I have a game running.

650-750? really?

I did a fresh install just a moment ago and it cost 950MB right from beginning without anything install....

where you got that number from?

It's dependent on how much RAM you have as well. Sitting here with foobar, one Chrome window open and HydraIRC running, I'm at 1.51GB out of 6GB.

I am constantly mesmerized by how many of these "recommend me a card" forums that pop up. Seriously, If you don't know what's what, just go down to you local *estBuy and pick up a card from one company, then pick up another card from the other company that is equivalent in price. Game on them for 10 days and return the one that you feel isn't worth it, or sucks more depending on price or performance whichever is your main decision maker. I used to think "Nvidia for life" too ever since back from the Geforce 6800 series. Had a GTX 6800, 8800 Ultra. Few months ago got a 5850 just cause no Nvidia next gen parts in sight. If it sucked I would have sold it on the forums long ago at a small loss, or even gain when supply was tight. But it didn't suck and is still in my rig. When the fermi comesout, if it is even more badass, you bet your ass I will sell it at loss and get the Fermi, If not I keep the 5850. Fanboy shit is just dumb

Dude, if you are being facetious then, lol ;)

If not, WTH? Why would I go to BB and buy two overpriced GPUs, then return one? That is a lot of trouble and unethical. And why shouldn't people come to the forum on advice for what to purchase? You gain the advantage of other's expertise and it can save yourself alot of headaches.....

Didn't mean to sound too harsh, I just don't quite get it, I guess.... However, I do agree with you about the Fanboyism, it's just silly.

I dont understand how you all call it fanboyisnm... when this is my first Nvidia card...?

My question is why cant the ATI fanboys backoff.

He doesnt care about ATI cards. You're filling this thread with junk talking about them.

If you guys would have bothered to think for a second before jumping in to preach OMG ATI RULEZ you should have realized he posted in the Nvidia subform, with a thread title of "nvidia for life". My guess from the forum location and title is that he isn't interested in ATI.

Great, so I'm getting my first domestic car, can anyone suggest one to me, oh BTW it's gotta be a Ford... Sound familier?

He also stated that, "sorry if I posted in the wrong section or if my title is misleading... I dont know diddly about Graphics cards". Since he admitted that he knows nothing about video cards, some people were simply trying to impress upon him the price/performance advantage of going with an ATi card at this time in case he was unaware of the situation.

Now he knows and can make a better informed purchasing decision. If he decides he still wants to go with Nvidia, so be it. But at least it's better than blindly saying, "I dont know diddly about Graphics cards", "Nvidia for life".

Task Manager and Process Explorer and its the same number when I take 2gig ram sticks off as well from the 4gig.

Are you interested dx11/larger monitor at the moment?A gtx 9800+,used,should get you by until nvidia comes out with new line of products. No use in wasting a lot of money.Nivdia will probably costs as much as ATI.No plans for dx11/monitor now or future, find a 260/216.

I think the issue is that if the user is Windows only and your buying a new card it's absolutely ridiculous to buy a last gen part. Yes ATI drivers need some improvement, but it's not like they are horribly bad in Windows. Especially since Nvidia hasn't exactly been wonderful in Win7/Vista comparatively. Right now brand new 260 216's have been rising in price where they are hitting the 200's in price. A 5770 is comparable, while it does take about a 10 FPS decrease comparatively it's way more feature/future proofed than the 216/260 is and it's about 60 dollars cheaper and it performs significantly better than a 250. While a 250 would be good for his resolution, it has far less features and once you start turning on AA and AF and all the other goodies with a 250 you go from acceptable to dismal.

I've only bought Nvidia, but I base my purchase on numbers. Unless you've got money to burn and plan on building something extreme you've got to be honest with the benchmarks and buy according to that and overall experience with the implementation of the drivers.

I dont understand why you call them ATI fans. They are simply realistic. ATI is the only way to go right now.

well dude nvidia is dx 10.1 ATI is dx 11 and the NEW Video King and your going windows 7 which is also dx 11 but does play backwards. why not buy a porsche and put a honda engine in it while your at it loser :D

I know you're waiting for a couple of more pages, but common Kyle…lock it.

I like the new ATI series cards....but, I stick to Nvidia because over the years i've learned their driver architecture and can usually make alterations and profiles for the games i play in SLI. I never took the time to learn the ATI coding but im sure similar results can be found. I simply havent ever had trouble with my nvidia cards and so i stick with them, but i have always run SLI or tri-sli.

I honestly think nVidias big advantage as a company is this kind of brand following of masses.
Its no different than the people that choose iPod for their next music player without considering any other options.

nVidia cards aren't bad at all but right now for price/performance from a gaming perspective, ATI is the clear winner in that regards.

From what I read at RivaTuner's forum, NVIDIA has been very supportive of the game developers, big and small. Many of them received NVIDIA cards (decent ones like GTX285) to ensure their games run well on NVIDIA hardware. On top of that, NVIDIA offers feature rich, working API for their drivers. Even the RivaTuner programmer has commented on this, based on his experience through RivaTuner. He implemented certain functions in RivaTuner for NVIDIA cards, but not for AMD/ATI because their driver didn't support it or wasn't mature enough. NVIDIA's commitment to CUDA is also self-evident.

AMD/ATI on the other hand, seems to be focused mainly on hardware engineering, with less programming development. Even if AMD/ATI decides to improve on that, it will take a while for their effort to show up in released games because the long development time. It's true that only AMD offers DX11 cards right now. But when Fermi becomes available, NVIDIA will rush them to game developers and help them integrate into their games. By the later half of 2010, AMD's six months lead on DX11 wouldn't matter all that much.

I buy NVIDIA because I like how they support game developers.

im going with the GTX 260, considering I got it for free... thanks for all the positive help... lock it
