NVIDIA EDID Issue

Hi Guys,

I have a no-brand 36" TV acting as my primary monitor. Its native resolution is 1920x1080.
I have previously used it in conjunction with my old HD4870 for about 6 months with no issue (as long as I connected it via a DVI cable not HDMI).

I have since bought a GTX670, and no matter whether I use DVI or HDMI, everything is fuzzy and crap looking (as it was on HDMI on the 4870).

From reading a few threads, I have learned that this is an issue affecting displays that have incorrect EDID information, and an abject refusal from NVIDIA to accommodate them as ATI do.

I found a thread here that explained how to override the EDID via registry. I added the following key:

OverrideEdidFlags0 7F FF 00 90 00 00 FF FF 04 00 00 00 7E 01 00 0E 0C 8D 88

("7F FF 00 90") is the 4 "digit" sequence that relates to my monitor that I got using PhoenixEDID.

Now, my problem is this:

Whilst it works perfectly on the windows desktop now, games no longer allow 1920x1080, and all seem to be thinking the native res is 1366x768 (which it is not).

I presume I have to alter the above sequence in some way to force a NATIVE res of 1080, or something like that.

Games I have this issue with (being all the ones I have tested) are:-

1. Diablo 3 (solved in a way by using windowed mode)
2. Skyrim (window mode doesn't help)
3. Game of Thrones (has no ability to create a 1920x1080 window).

All of these games worked perfectly fine in 1920x1080 Fullscreen on my 4870.

I have spent hours on this so far, and I can't seem to find any solution that will allow me to play at 1920x1080.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Have you tried adding custom resolution via the driver?

Ask over at the powerstrip forums, ashley and rik know crazy amounts of stuff regarding stuff like this.

Also the powerstrip app might be able to help you out also if they give you advice on how to fix your problem.

Thats where i would go if i was facing similar problems.

Remove the OverrideEdidFlags0, then try my program instead: http://www.toastyx.net/cru-preview.zip

First, uncheck "Include extension block" since that's often where HDTV resolutions are defined. That's basically what that OverrideEdidFlags0 is doing.

Next, make sure 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz is defined as the first detailed resolution in the list. The first detailed resolution is considered the preferred or native resolution. If it's not defined, you'll have to add it. I don't have a preset for the commonly used 1080p timing parameters, so you'll have to enter them manually:

Horizontal: 1920 88 44 148 280 2200 +
Vertical: 1080 4 5 36 45 1125 +
Refresh rate: 60.000 Hz

To make things simpler, get rid of any other resolutions you don't need.

After you're done editing, click OK and reboot. See if that helps.

To restore the settings back to defaults, use the program to delete the display and reboot.

Wow! It worked! Thank's a lot man. I would have had absolutely no chance of fixing it without your help....and a nice easy-to-use program to boot too. Fantastic.

Just in case anyone else with a similar problem digs up this thread later:

1. I had numerous "monitors" listed in Toasty's program when i first opened it, including one called "[monitor name]__Override". I tried changing that one with the above settings. Didn't work. Made everything go blurry again.

2. Deleted that monitor, and tried again on the next (I had probably about 8 listings for each of my 2 monitors, and 2 for NVIDIA ones which i presume are just the spare display ports or something.

3. Still didn't work.

4. So I deleted ALL the duplicates, and both NVIDIA, leaving just 1 of each monitor.

5. Added the above custom res, and deleted all the other detailed resolutions.

6. Didn't touch the standard res's.

7. Rebooted.

8. SUCCESS!!

Thanks again mate.
