NVIDIA Changes GPU Requirements for PhysX

Instead of posting to another news site, why don't you just post to the source?

Oh wait....

In all seriousness though, while this isn't surprising, I dont even think an 8600gt/9500gt is going to cut it with 32 shaders. It SHOULD, but pairing it up with a higher end card will probably just bog it down.

I can see something like 9600gt + 8600gt for physx working because the 9600gt wasnt that great to begin with, or even a 9800gt with 9600gt etc.

Nvidia should set better guidlines as to what cards should pair with what to help users get the most out of their Physx experience.

I think a common misconception about physx is that it's a form of "hybrid sli" where adding something is better than nothing just like ATI's hybrid Xfire, but this isn't the case at all.

For example, adding an 8500gt doesn't free up 16 shader's worth of processing power off of a 9800gtx+.

Either the 8500gt can keep up with the 9800 or the 9800 is stuck waiting for the 8500gt.

It's like a fat kid who's your partner during a 3 legged race. You're much faster on your own, but you're stuck waiting on him because your mom wants you to play nice.

A more serious question is ...

who the hell would use a dedicated GPU for physx anyways?

I've yet to see a title make it worth it.

I used to enable Physx... but no good games really need this, anyways.
32SP? That is a little on the heavy side in terms of low end GPUs, but then, what decent game has used it before?

Not a whole bunch of game developers are going to try to jack their consumers/loyal fans by forcing a nVidia product down their throats. ATI is still a decent sector of the gaming/HTPC world.
