Nvidia Card Equivalent to this?

Do you specifically need this card or something?

I'm not sure what you mean by Nvidia equivalent, since that is a Nvidia. A GTX 560 is a bit faster and bit more expensive if that is what you mean. A GTX 550ti is a bit slower and less expensive.

Otherwise check -

N C I X or Amazon.ca or pricebat.ca (and just price match with a bigger store).

we have no idea how those games will perform when they come out.

and it would be helpful if you listed your other specs too in detail including resolution you plan to play at.

so you drop big bucks on that system but you are trying to skimp on the gpu for gaming??? and I really hope you did not get that pc primarily for gaming in the first place.

like cannondale said, if this is a gaming rig you're skimping on a very key component relative to the rest of your system. to answer your question, the MSI Hawk will perform just as well as any other 460 1GB. it's just a nice cooler and some additional power phase circuitry. i have 2 of them and they're nice, but i wouldn't hesitate to pick up any other version of the 460 barring the 'SE' version.

of course not, it's for audio production, which is why I just wan't a decent card that will run these games well

If my current video card that is 4-5 years outdated is running GTA4 decenty, I think this will run the new games:

Ok, are you paying HST or whatever on purchases coming from actual Canadian retailers? i.e Canadacomputers, DirectCanada, MemoryExpress, etc.

Yes that GTX 460 will run new games as long as you're not looking for high or possibly even medium settings at 1920x1080. However, it has a pretty shitty price to performance ratio since the faster GTX 560 can be had for $190 or $22 more than that particular GTX 460. The increased performance offered by the GTX 560 well makes up for that $22.

You need to be more specific in terms of what you are looking for.

1) How much do you want to spend? Do you want to focus more on value or performance?
2) What newer games are you considering?
3) What resolution and or settings are you looking for in terms of "run the new games?"
4) Are you planning on upgrading if necessary later? Or do you have to stick with this GPU for a set of amount of time?
5) What other features/requirements do you need in a GPU besides gaming performance?
6) Is there a retailer near you (to save on shipping)?

1. After Danny's statement, no more than $200 without tax

2. Max Payne 3, GTA 5, Hitman 5

3. 1920x1080 or slightly lower

4. Sticking with this GPU for the next 2-3 years

5. Tri Monitor would be great, but I need sli's which I"m not interested right now. I'll also be scoring film music in my audio program, but im capable of that now.

6. No retailers

you need to spend more money if you want to play those games on decent settings at 1920x1080. its seems silly to spend a boat load of money on the rest of your pc yet not spend enough money to play the games you want to play. also its silly to say you will stick with the same gpu for 2-3 years especially if you are not willing to spend enough to get a gpu that can play some current and upcoming games on decent settings at 1920x1080. plus gpus are easily upgradable and your previous one can be sold if for some reason you cant buy a good enough gpu now.

cannon,

My previous card is worth around $50 brand new right now, so no go there.

How about what Danny linked me to:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127592

Are the Newegg.ca cards also coming with Arkham City?

I think getting a card of this class and refreshing later on is probably a better idea than getting something higher end and holding onto it longer. But I'm not sure if this will handle 1920x1080 necessarily for 3 years, especially dependent on when the next gen consoles hit.

Some other options for you (replace with N C I X) -

Gigabyte GTX 560 - $180->$160 AR, Arkham City Free
http://.com/products/index.php?sku=61236&vpn=GV-N56GOC-1GI&manufacture=Gigabyte&promoid=1190

EVGA GTX 560 - $200->$185 AR , Arkham City Free
http://.com/products/index.php?sku=61196&vpn=01G-P3-1460-KR&manufacture=eVGA&promoid=1190

Gigabyte GTX 550ti - $125 -> $105 AR, Just Cause 2 free, Dungeon Siege 3 free
http://.com/products/index.php?sku=59445&vpn=GV-N550OC-1GI&manufacture=Gigabyte&promoid=1190

This is slower, but its cheaper, as an option.

your links dont work and the Batman promo is over I think. even regular newegg.com does not show it anymore for the cards I have looked at.

You need to replace the missing part with what I wrote. The promo is still be advertised at that retailer.

oops I just clicked on the links without reading.

maybe newegg ran out of batman promos then.

I was going to get the sparkle until I heard of this was better.

Cannon, turn the specs down? Not sure what you mean.
If I pop in GTA 4 can I max out everything? Or games like crysis 2?

the gtx560 is not fast enough nor does it have enough vram to max a game like GTA 4 and Crysis 2 in DX11 at 1920x1080. and there are plenty of other games you will not be maxing out either with what is considered decent framerates.

Now I'm confused, so you need a $3-400 video card to max out these future games, and crysis 2?

Besides, I just want much better graphics than 360/ps3

what is confusing? do you really not read video card and video game reviews? if a non ti gtx560 could max all current and future games at 1920x1080 then why would people ever buy gtx570 and gtx580 cards? heck some people buy TWO gtx570 or gtx580 cards to crank all the settings and still get great framerates. and I still don't get why you have no trouble dropping huge bucks on an X79 platform yet you cant understand why people buy $300-$400 video cards.

if all you want to do is have 360 graphics then you will need to put nearly all settings on low and play at just under 1280x720 at 30fps in most cases.

We can't even say that considering that those three games that you mentioned have not come out yet. As for Crysis 2, if you keep AA down/up to 4xAA and Ultra High settings, you'll get around 32FPS or so. If that isn't good enough for you, then yes you'll need a $250 to $400 video card to play Crysis 2 maxed out with FPS above 32FPS.

Besides, I just want much better graphics than 360/ps3

Even at High settings and medium settings in some games, you'll still get better graphics than many games on the 360/PS3.

If you want to try to keep the same card for 2-3 years, I would say that you need to get either a 6970 or GTX580 at the minimum.

I'm running 2x 6870s that are overclocked to 940/1200 and I still can't max out DX11 settings on Crysis2 at 1920x1080.. and I am not even trying to run any AA. Everything but Objects and Shadows I currently have set to Ultra and get a steady 70-80fps, but if I up objects from Extreme to Ultra, it drops the FPS down to about 35 for the high... something just isn't right.

If you plan on playing with decent settings in 2-3 years time, you can't skimp on the GPU.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127518&Tpk=gtx hawk 460

I can't find it on newegg.ca! And it's $20-30 more on every other site.
It's bull i'm paying so much HST tax on my new build, wow.

Anyways what's the equivalent of that? I don't want to go higher than that price, and I need Nvidia.

If it's on another site as the same price let me know, thank you.

gtx460 Hawk for 130$ AR, they only have a few left hurry.

Links broken.

I don't believe that a GTX 460 won't run the games i listed.

My current video card runs GTA4 at mid-high settings, and sport games perfectly:

Anyways it's the msi 560 for now unless another brand is more reputable.
or that HAWK in the link happymedium posted.
why dont you take a few minutes and look at some reviews instead of arguing? I will post just one benchmark showing Crysis 2 on DX11 since that is a game you mentioned. now does it look like its playable to you?
