NVIDIA Build - Thoughts?

Hey everyone, i'm planning on a new build thats medium / high budget (the lower, the better :D) Some might have seen my "Black Widow" themed build which is what i like to do, make theme-based builds. Anyways, my next project is a "NVIDIA" themed build. Let me know your thoughts for the parts i chose, any changes I should make, and concerns :). Remember: This is a black and green theme.

Here's my list:

[1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
- Gaming mostly, some video editing maybe, and web browsing of course.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
- Under $1000 would be great. Considering I might get some used parts, it should be around $7-800.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
- USA, Chicago, Illinois
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
- Mobo: Gigabyte Guerilla G.1 1336 Motherboard
- CPU: Intel Core i7 940 @ 2.93GHz
- Case: Cooler Master 690 NVIDIA Edition
- Ram: G.Skill 8GB PC3-12800
- Hard Drives: 1x Velociraptor (already have it) 2x WD 1TB HDDs.
- Powersupply: Corsair 750-watt
- Cooling: Custom WC for CPU and Video Card
- Video Card: EVGA GTX 285 (Maybe SLI in the future?)

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
- Western Digital Velocirator 150GB
6) Will you be overclocking?
- Possibly.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
- Acer 23-inch
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
- In the next 3-months to have all the parts.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
- SLI for sure. Can;t think of anything else atm.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
- Yes, XP or 7? 64-bit most likely.

Are those parts you're planning on buying now? Or parts you already have? Because outside of an extremely limited usage scenarios, it does not make sense to buy an old Core i7 setup now. In addition, a lot of those parts are extremely old by today's standards. So from a price to performance aspect, it's pretty horrible for the money unless you REALLY love colors.

So please answer the questions that Skillz linked to so that we can help you better.

Ok, I updated the thread with that questionaire. Let me know if there is something I should change.

why would you get a gtx 285? and to follow that question, why would you maybe sli it in the future?

this is a very bad build. you need to rethink just about every part you picked out.

Well, i dont know if you read the first part of this thread saying that I am going after a specific theme of black and green so im not gonna get a blue motherboad or anything else.

The video card ill maybe change but like stated i want to stay under $1000 dollars.

You should come back in 3 months and bump this topic so we can better recommend parts for your build, since in 3 months prices will change drastically. What's a good performance/price ratio right now wont be the same recommendation in November.

With that being said, even in 3 months or now going with an 1336 i7 940 setup is not worth the money at all, especially with a $100 budget when an i5 2500k will be better and if you have the money go with an i7 2600k as it will benefit on the video editing, but will not see any difference in gaming between an i5 2500k and i7 2600k.

Also that Velociraptor hard drive is a poor performer compared to newer, better hard drives on the market such as the Samsung F3 1TB. Read this review for proof. The Samsun F3 also out performs those WD 1TB hard drives as well.

The GTX 200 series of video cards are extremely outdated, when their are GTX 500 series out now. I'd recommend a GTX 400 series card before I'd recommend GTX 200 series cards.

Your RAM selection is not worth the buy at all when their is no performance differences between DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) and DDR3 1600 (PC2 12800) so save some money and pick up some DDR3 1333 sticks.

Which exact 750W PSU are you referring to?

All in all, come back the week you're ready to buy so we can recommend you some better parts.
