NVIDIA Annouces Quad SLI

OMG that is awesome. I wonder what the performance increase with that are now. Man it will be just 2 grand to get 4 high end cards to put in SLI :eek:

EDIT: Looking at that animation, is that just 2 cards I see with 2 pcb(or whatever that is called) boards on it?

Would be cool if it made gaming on a 30inch LCD possible at native res.
 
looks like a pain in the ass to watercool those babies though... It seems as if the other DUAL GPU boards are better for this (although they only come in 7800GT not GTX )
 
Well, by the looks of that press release it's for use in an XPS system.

And with all the bloatware slowing down Dell's XPS systems, they'll need that extra power to make up for it...
 
I was sure hoping that the video card companies would start pushing multicore Cards, and stop all of this SLI crap, I'm still happy with my 6800 Ultra, but when I do upgrade in the late summer, it will be a single card, I will never spend over 300 bucks for a video card and if the day comes that I ever have to, its console city for me, PC gaming just won't be worth it anymore and i've been using gaming cards since my 4meg voodoo 1.

Isnt 32x AA a little bit excessive? I would sure love to have one of those setups playing at a very high res :D I bet that XPS is going to start at 4 grand!!!!!!!

try 6 or 7 grand. it is already nearly 6 grand when configured with sli 7800gtx512mb cards. :eek:

Finally a use for extended ATX cases. Pretty sure I don't have room for it on my desk.

that Dell has flames painted on the case. well with that 4.25 overclocked dual core P4 and 4 gpu cores theres goning to be REAL flames inside the case. how will they keep it cooled down??

Who the heck would buy this with a crappy Dell. Only an enthusiast of the highest insanity would want Quad SLI. What kind of perosn would want Quad SLI and then have it crippled buy an Intel CPU on a generic MoBo that doesn't even allow OCing? This better not be Dell only.
 
4x7800GTX512's = 4x600 = $2,400 in just video cards??? I mean I have a good job an all, but damn, who would spend that much.. my 3.2EE system didnt' cost that much!!!!

Not to mention, putting that much cash into cards that have been out awhile, and are already behind the competition as far as features.. makes you think twice (or many times more) before plopping down that kinda cash. When newer cards come out, that have even more features, and a lot faster in single card mode are "only" $650 for a single card, and half as fast of the speed of 4xGTX's, (or 2 in SLI/CF being even faster), I would have a hard time putting that kind of cash out, not to mention the motherboard, probably much higher than a normal SLI board. Could I use my sound card? Maybe, maybe not. If any at all, probably just one additional card. However, seeing how the high end cards are about 3% of total sales, its not worth getting too excited, just yet...

But if you got the cash, and dont care about the price, more power to you. Literally.

These cards make more sense when they are made available in the retail channel for anyone to purchase seperately. In the hands of a true enthusiast compiled with the right gear, one could have a truly awesome system that could last for several years of blissful gaming!
 
I could care less if I had an Apple.

I was just saying the raw power war is over, or over for now. Until ATi can do a QuadFire. :D
 
Think about it, go configure the current XPS 600 with dual 512MB GTX's, the 3.2GHz dual core P4 (that you'll still have to OC like mad to help a little with the CPU bottleneck, bump up to 2Gigs of RAM, and add the 30" flat-panel they just came out with to actually put the resolutions Quad SLI can push and you're at $8,399!!

I don't think the motherboard is going to be too special. Remember the pictures going around a while ago that everybody was saying was Quad SLI. It's just using the newer version of the nForce 4 chipset. I'm guessing that to get a system with Quad SLI that will bottleneck those cards that least, you're looking at over 9K.

And how long before somebody figures out how to get the drivers to work without having special cards. Their little animation makes me think it's just 2 cards using a single pci-e slot and extended to allow for 2 SLI bridges. Using one of those newer nForce4 boards with 4 pci-e x8 slots, why would it not be possible to do 2 and 2 since somebody has already shown that 3-way sli already kind of works. I'm thinking it's just a driver issue for the most part now.

Finally I will be able to run 16x AA on my 37" LCD at 1920x1080, and when I smoke dope while playing games, I will be in the Matrix. I may just be the FIRST CASE of when someone gets shot in a game, the human body reacts like it was really hit by a bullet. I may die the first nigh IRL the first night I play BF2 on this setup.

Funny you should mention real flames.

Im pretty sure thats what the artist that painted the case calls his work...It's either real flames or real fire. Either way the paint job looks awesome. The guy was on TLC rides once or twice. He does awesome work. 3D looking flames. Which suit the heat the 3D cards will be puttin' out.

I totally want 4 of those systems.
