Nvidia 980/970 Availability Thread

I had to RMA my ZOTAC AMP! Omega Edition 980 due to it being defective. That was my first ZOTAC and it's not impressive. I couldn't see much value in the USB connection with the additional monitoring.

hummm, was just about to pull the trigger and buy the batman. Looked impressive. Now not so sure....

That sucks. Was it artifacting or just flat out refused to work?

The Batman version might be better as it's the Extreme Edition. I only tried the Omega, but it definitely steered me more toward the brands I trust more.

Initially it worked fine. After using it for an hour or two, the next day it was artifacting at stock speeds. Also sometimes it would cause the monitor to go off and on every few seconds (on for less than a second, off for 2-3 seconds) so I think it was sending something out of range for my screen. When it was on for less than a second I could see artifacts, lines, and other garbage on the screen.

Hey guys!

I was informed by our PM that Amazon should be getting more stock in this upcoming week! Good luck getting these guys!

yeah I hear you, but I need a new card and the non ref MSI/Gigabytes/ETC are OOS everywhere. Plus they all seem to have one type of issue or another(mostly fan or noise related) after reading various forums

I was going to pull the trigger on the batman, but it was OOS after I finally decided to buy it.

Good luck making cards that don't have coil whine and get returned

It seems that coil whine is really hit or miss with EVERY brand. I got my Gigabyte 970s yesterday and holy shit, it's not coil whine, it's goddamn coil SCREECH. Yes SCREECH, like nails on a chalkboard. Holy motherfucking shit.

Let's see if Gigabyte will approve this RMA

Thanks for the info buddy. I really appreciate it. I'm using a 600t with 4 120mm fans on the side. I was figuring on Making the fans exhaust the air from the gpus. Thoughts on this?
I plan on doing this once I get the right screws for the 200mm side fan in my NZXT Phantom. I'm just worried about it creating intersectional airflow with my current push-pull setup (back and top-2 fans exhaust, front fans intake currently).

Geez - that was classless, maybe treat the reps with a bit more respect if you want them to be on this site? If you have something constructive to say I am sure they would like that more than a snarky comment.

Every brand has issues with coil whine, it is an inherent problem with videocards. Some are worse than others, but take a handful of cards from different makes and models and you are sure to find a few whiners. This is not an issue affecting performance, though just something that is very annoying. I have very sensitive hearing, especially high frequencies bother me so I can understand the problems people have with this issue.

You realize all the companies are dealing with it?

The MSI Rep is pretty good at responding here. I might not have got MSI's this time around, but I cannot say enough praise for the lightning series. One of the best!

FYI.
MSI 980 gaming in stock @ the egg. just grabbed one
Yeah, I'm trying to decide if that big, beautiful beast of a 980 is worth $200 more than a 970. I game at 1440p on a single monitor. No desire for a multi-monitor setup, but I might opt for a 4K monitor, in 2015.

Decisions...

I only game at 1080p but....
I always get the best at time within reason(no titan) so its pretty future proof for a few years.

3 fan cooler model Zotac GTX 980 now in stock @ Newegg for only $549.99.

Anyone get there Evga 980 from Tigerdirect yet? I ordered 2 weeks ago..

Sounds like it was through a third party. Tigerdirect seems to be using these third parties more now which sucks. Keep calling them as they are pretty incompetent and will let it linger without any attempt at resolving the issue

After the complaints in this thread I'll not touch TD with a 10' stick. Directron is up there on my shitlist, too.

Well FWIW I ordered 2 Gigabyte 970s from Directron last Friday, and they showed up on my doorstep this Monday.

The cards themselves have horrible coil whine but that's got nothing to do with Directron.

Availability has indeed been the biggest issue - MicroCenter Fairfax FINALLY got SOME GTX970s in stock (MSI and EVGA) for longer than a day - Rockville, OTOH, is still quite regularly reporting empty shelves within two days of a shipment arriving.

Between MSI and EVGA, which has the better-reliability of their GTX970s? (EVGA has known issues - my worry is that MSI, despite being better on price, may be worse on reliability.)

Yeah, folks have been having inconsistent experiences with Directron. FWIW, I ordered a Zotac 980 over the weekend of 9/30. That Monday I had not received any sort of order update so I checked their online order status and it told me to call them. I did, and they needed to verify my CC info. Ok, no big deal. After a couple days they still hadn't shipped my order and others in this thread was reporting them possibly selling cards they didn't physically have in stock. The same Zotac 980 came in stock on Amazon so I snagged that and cancelled my Directron order via email. Their confirmation email confirmed they actually didn't have the card in stock.

So mostly my complaint with Directron was their complete lack of keeping me in the loop. I felt like I needed to ride their ass to get order updates that come for granted when ordering from Newegg or Amazon.

SKUs seem to be heavily back-ordered. I don't know what people are smoking but they are ordering these cards like crazy

I just installed my gigabyte 970 card and the dam card has a noticeable coil whine. Serves me right for not waiting on the strix.

I'm going to RMA it and preorder the Strix on Amazon and wait.

Just a little FYI... the Strix has received some coil whine complaints, too. It seems no 970 card is exempt from this problem. I'm taking a chance with the MSI 970 I just ordered. We'll see.

Other than that the card is super fast. I'm going to overclock tomorrow and see if it gets worse. I've also heard that it could be psu related but I have a corsair tx850 so power should not be an issue for a single card.

Greedy assholes who buy up all the available stock and then try to sell them for $150+ above MSRP in hopes that we would be desperate enough to cave in. Just look around on Amazon, eBay and your local CL, I guarantee you'll find more than one seller trying to make a quick buck.

Fuck these scumbags. I hope they get burned with overstock and have to sell them at below cost in the end because they totally deserve it.

That is why I tend to look at both Fairfax AND Rockville MCs - Rockville costs less to get to by mass-transit, but Fairfax (for some odd reason) is better inventory-wise for "enthusiast" parts - despite both CIA and the former National Reconnaissance Office (now the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency - the fusion of the former Defense Mapping Agency and NRO) still within easy shopping distance (along with most of the contractors thereof) of Fairfax - the closest Rockville has to anything spooky is all the way in Germantown (the Department of Energy offices and the National Institute of Standards and Technology).

Ordered mine on the 25th and got them on the 6th. Have yours shipped? Their shipping update system is flaky, so I hassled their cs department for updates every other day to keep them on their toes. My tracking number was provided 3 days after the order when it actually shipped the day I placed it. Then I had to chase them for the 2nd tracking number when it super from their "main" warehouse. Apart from that, the shipping did occur promptly for me. It's just that their info system is lacking currently unless you prompt them. For my order anyway.

Ordered mine on the 25th as well. It first showed the tracking from the 3rd party to TD. Then I asked for the tracking from TD to me. Few days later I get it and it was being sent to me, but right when it arrived in my city they requested to have the package redelivered back to TD. Since then I chatted with them and they gave me another order that hasn't been updated with tracking. They've been saying they will contact me within 24 hours with an update but it's been about 96 hours.

Wow, cancel that order with TD. That's completely ridiculous. Why was the package returned to TD once it arrived in your city?

I tried the 2nd best thing and requested to switch my order to the Asus 980 they had in stock but they said it's not possible because the order has been processed or something like that.

If there's no update by tomorrow i'll call in a try to cancel my order. I'm starting to not care anymore
