Selling a new udac2 usb amp/dac. I used it for about 2 days and realized that my headphone required a lot more power (600 ohm). It works awesome for just about every other headphone set I've used.

Suppose i have a set of bookself speakers. I plug these into the DAC via the red/white jacks, then plug an optical cable into the computer and I should be good to go right? And the front port with the audio control is for plugging in headphones?

No, the red and white on the back are inputs.

The headphone jack is the output. You could connect the headphone jack to speakers and use this uDac as a preamp, but you would still need a speaker amp.

My bad in not reading the specs. I assumed they were analog ins to bypass the DAC for analog sources.

Turns out they are 2Vrms analog outputs for a line-level out to bypass the amp so you can use the uDAC as just a DAC.

So for the guy asking about connecting this to speakers, yes, you could use this box as a good quality DAC and use the line-level RCA out to connect to your speakers, but you would still need an amplifier between the line-level and your speakers.

correct. It's easier to think about it this way from a logical standpoint. Its powered by a 5.5v USB connection. No way is it going to pull enough power to push speakers, but a good set of headphones, sure!

Does the volume control the analog line output or is it always constant 2Vptp? I assume when you plug in phones the line out cuts out and the sound goes to phones, am i correct?

to tell you the truth I never used the rear outputs, since I used it for 2 days then moved to another amp. I could test this when I get home though.
