Hi all

If you look at this site...

http://lcdtech.no-ip.info/en/data/monitor.lcd.panels.htm

Seems Hp not only take different pannels at Hp w2408h

LPL_LM2403WU3 (LG) or

LTM240CT03 (SAMSUNG)....

Both panels present distinctive features:

* LTM240CT03 (SAMSUNG)

B-TN+Film III 1920x1200 16.7M (8 bit) 160/160 view angles

* LPL_LM2403WU3 (LG)

TN+Film 1920x1200 16.2M (6 bit + FRC) 160/160 view angles

LG really is not a genuine 8 bit panel, SAMSUNG panel yes.
In theory LG has better view angles.

They are both TN panels capable of 6-bit + HiFRC or dithering. I much prefer the HiFRC to dithering as I've seen examples in other TN panels. Dithering is grainy. HiFRC, if done right, is almost indistinguishable from other 8-bit technologies.

I have heard (unsubstantiated) that the Samsung is a bit better, but they are both wide gamut TNs with glossy coverings so the colors should be pretty saturated and vibrant on either. It really depends if they have widely different color characteristics and HP is properly calibrating in the factory for each panel typ/manufacturer, or just using the same settings internally which can yield lousy results as in the Samsung 226BW's case.

There are some good articles on BEHardware or TFTCentral.co.uk talking about this "marketecture".

I got the crappy LG panel... Have contacted HP about the different panels problem, still waiting for an answer. I'm gonna returen the one i have, and maybe gamble and buy a new one with a different region number. I live in Norway, and they sell the product under two region codes.
