My idle temps are

44

45

40

43

For my quad Q6600

there were lower then that (like 42 40 38 37) yesterday

What gives?

I need to add a front fan still but these temos seem to hot to me.

My load temps dont seem to have changed much though

around 57 for the first two cores 54 for second two.

THis is with no overclock! Its annoying me now. Is adding a front fan even going to get these temps down? I have hte artic 7 92mm CPU fan with two 120mm case fans right now.

At stock those are very high temps.

I use the Tuniq Tower 120 and my stock @ idle temps are mid 20's. @ load they go up to 32.

I know that the Arctic isn't the best, but it should better than what you are seeing there.
What case are you using?
What did you use for Thermal Compound?

Have you tried to reseat your HSF?

It is usually suggested that you reapply the thermal compound when you remove it.

Is the side fan set as an intake & the rear fan set as exhaust?

Yeah side fan is intake rear is exhaust.

So maybe I should try getting some new thermal? How am I gonna get the stuff that is already on there off?

I just ordered another 120mm fan for the front of the case

There are numerous gudes out there, but basically Q-Tips and Isopropyl Alcohol (you can pick up just about anywhere).

Ok so you think I should try out getting some new thermal first?

Will I be ok waiting for the front fan to get here just to make sure that doesn't bring my temps down a little? They are not dangerously high are they?

Ehh screw that I might as well just order some thermal too.

Anyone know a good place to order some? The egg charges almost as much shipping as the actually thermal cost

Dangerously high, no. This obviously limits your OC capapbilities as you are already bouncing up against what I use as my cutoff (60) temperature. Yes, you can go higher and others do, but each individual has to set for themselves what is an acceptable temperature threshold.

Where do you live? You may be able to find AS5 (or other high end thermal compounds) at a B&M.

I live in PA

I dont want my temps any higher then like 60C but I obviously cant OC with these temps on stock now.

Ill just order some off newegg and pay the shipping cost. Oh well

Should I get AS5?

AS5 will do just fine. You may want to just add your fan to the order to save on shipping.

plain ol coffee filters are the perfect lint-free cloths for dealing with cpu's

and for my money, right next to that rubbing alcohol at WalMart is their brand
of Alcohol Swabs - saturated with isopropyl alcohol, and they unfold (2ply).
A box of 100 cost me under $2 and each one is individually foil-wrapped

but definitely clean your heatsink dude, and lay some AS5 or MX1 or MX2 on there

if it still gives you trouble, you might consider lapping the CPU's thermal cap

my Pentium D 940 was giving me FITS - real, frothing at the mouth MADMAN fits
- I always use ArctiClean and AS5 for CPUs, but the strangest thing, it ran hot!
and whenever I would remove the HSF thinking I needed to re-apply the AS5,
what was left of the AS5 had all kind of puddled a tad smaller than a nickel
right in the middle of the top of the CPU - I spent 30-40 min doing a thorough job
lapping the thermal cap on that thing, and it was SO convex I had to laugh

my idle and load temps dropped by more than 15deg C

so while you have your CPU out and cleaned up, take a level to it or something

those thermal caps are all machined, but then they are machine STAMPED on there

so don't assume that the top of your CPU is flat and level, just cause Intel made it

jes mah 2 bits

Some real basic info that no one seems to be asking before giving out sound advice.

What are the temps inside your case?
Did you probably seat the HSF on the chip? I only ask because I truly dislike the Intel push pin clips.

Secondly, lapping a processor is generally only going to show a few degrees drop and not for the faint of heart.

under load for mine the overall temp is 44C, and under idle its about 40 it doesnt seem to move very much and thats with the stock CPU cooler.

I have very similar issues......

44,44,49,49 at idel on real temp...x3350....i over clocked it to 3.2....same temps. On Core Temp it is like 52,52,55,55....

CPU temp in Bios is 30, mobo temp 33,

I am using a Ninja Rev.B

Yeah I put t on right, almost positive.

no clue what the temp inside my case is how could I find that out?

I have X3350 and I idle at 38 46 46 41 in a very warm room. I am overclocked to 3.7 ghz though at 1.4v.

Most mobos have a temp sensor that reads the general temp of the case. It should come up with popular temp reading programs. Not on my desktop but in the C2D duo overclocking sticky in this section has the good temp programs listed. One of them is Hardware monitor I believe.

If you have good airflow just get a temp reading of your room or near the system. Can at least give you a ballpark idea of how much higher your core temps are from the room temp.

What paste came with your heatsink? If it's the Arctic Cooling MX1 it should work well enough. I use their MX2 right now as it was cheap and I was starting to run low on Ceramique. If it's the MX1 I wouldn't worry about getting anything else.

The temperature of your room will also affect the temps of the CPU. Air cooling can only bring the temps down to the same as the ambient temp. Also, since heat is going to be trapped in the case no matter what, the ambient temp of the case will make a difference.

As stated, the heatspreader on the CPU could be causing this or the base of the heatsink. I've only had one AC heatsink and it's basically the same as what you're using except mine is for an AM2 board. I get pretty good temps with it and the base seems to be just fine.

I don't remember right off hand the best way to check to see if the heatspreader or base of the heatsink is flat or not, but someone should be able to tell you something simple on how to check it. That way you don't go lapping something that may not need to be lapped.

I was getting horrible temps with my Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with one of my overclocked quads. I ended up spending an hour lapping the base because it was so convex it was scary. After doing that my load temps dropped about 13C.

Here is my temp with HW monitor

I now that I have build quite a few system get a cheap indoor outdoor temp and always put the outdoor probe inside the middle of the case so I can see i the inside temps like mine now is running 22.7 inside and the out side temp is 20.4 and the MB is 29 cpu is 27-29 c not bad in a P-182 case C2D 6750 with a Zalman 9700.

hey DH - just got a look at ur temps there - the temps for your 4 cores don't look too bad from what I've seen on other machines - seems to me that what is probably getting you mostly is ambient temp inside the case - if you're into Do-It-Yourself, you might consider cutting a hole in the top of your case to mount a fan in the top to blow hot air right up out of the top of your case

I have a Chieftec Dragon with this, and even just the 80mm fan I put there dropped my CPU temps by 4-5deg C - the down-side is, how do you cut a perfect 3-inch (or 4-inch hole for a 120mm fan) in 1mm thick SECC steel? AND, you really have to take everything out of the case to do it, and a long thorough clean-up afterward before you can put your baby back together again
