Not true anymore. Intel GMA HD on the new Core i3 is competitive with the 785G (it wins some and loses some, and when it does lose it's close).

But better-yet, the overclocked IGP on the Core i5 661 beats the 785G in nearly everything. You now have a third choice in IGPs for the first time.

TO THE OP:

Nvidia 6150 was good about 4 years go, but today it is completely outclassed by ATI 3200/4200, Nvidia 9400 and Intel GMA HD. It does not even offer h.264 video acceleration. the processor is new, but the board is a closeout to clear stock.

EDIT: you could always just buy the combo and ditch the motherboard. It's still cheaper than buying the processor alone online :)

he wants to go cheep, which a i3/i5 is not

he also had 3 options he already pick out (not in stone) and the 4350 is easily the best choice (because its the newest has something to do with it)


although if i had to IG i might recomend i3 but not at the price point they want. ati does graphics well, intel ... doesnt

Too bad the celeron combo sold out before I knew about it :-/
 
If the H55 mobos were priced fairly for what they are (A bunch of lanes with a southbridge) I would say the new 32nm/45nm Core i3s and i5s would kick BUTT because of energy savings due to the lower process in my opinion.

However the H55 mobos as usual are overpriced and crap. So 785G and 790GX for the win again.

Edit: BTW The 6150 is about the worst onboard graphics out there. Its made to compete with Intel on just cheapness to fab and sell.
 
I just ran 785g 4200 at 650, scores 65 fps on counterstrike source benchmark on 22lcd at medium settings, no AA. Wow, IG are garbage for gaming. I guess youtube videos run well. LOL.
 
Shit, I can run the original F.E.A.R. on an Intel 4500HD and a Core 2 Duo @ 40 FPS medium settings -1366x768. Intel's IG have come a long way.

IGs are having to do far more these days. More and more people are driving TVs and of course Huge 16:10 displays.

It quickly eats up performance compared to the older days where it was acceptable to play Half Life 2 at 600 by 480 Or half Life 1 on CPU "3D Now!" AMD hardware.
 
So far every review i read on the IGP inside the i3 DOES NOT SHOW SIDE BY SIDE SCREENSHOTS OF INTEL VS ATI AND NVIDIA IGPs.

Why the need of side by side screnshots?

BECAUSE INTEL HAS CHEATED BEFORE!

Previous Intel graphics destroyed image quality by NOT RENDERING ALL TEXTURES AND POLYGONS!

The numbers from Intel are soo good, that even if the hardware and clock speeds are similar, i still don't trust Intel graphics driver team to do anything that does not suck big.

Even HardOCP, that makes canonical to compare screenshots of NVIDIA vs ATI cards, refuses my requests for side by side comparison of IGPs.

And since the IGP inside the Core i3 is not the perfect HTPC GPU, i would love to see a dual Core 4 treads i3 built at 32nm, with Atom like power draw.
 
The only way atom works is if its paired with hardware that can offload decoding. And many formats are not supported...

Core i3 is not touted as the perfect HTPC GPU but there is no such thing as the perfect GPU for the job. Anyone that seriously into quality will use a 5670 or 5750 anyway because of how they can better handle filters and other post processing.

I have to defend i3 here tho. as of now they are the only integrated option for bitstreaming. So far it does not look like 890GX or related will have Bitstreaming (Only 7 channel LPCM has been rumored)

like said above its crap. if your looking at a cheap IGP that isn't junk your only real option is amd at this point. when the intel option drops some it will be good option as well but as it is you can put a amd video card, cpu, and mother board together for the same price and clean the floor with it.(barring special sales) some of the intel offerings are not so bad, the 4500 isn't going to break any speed records but it does suppose to.

HD 4200 and a tri core athalon @ 2.7. you can find cheaper but this is a LOT of ban for the buck here.

You guys are complaining about an IGP being bad for gaming? You guys expect way too much. Integrated GPU's are meant for basic graphical acceleration. We're lucky that they have enough power for video decoding.

some will do basic games but I think most of us were talking about features and functions. like up scaling video, shader enhancing video, and in some cases the quality of the video or video effects. if all you want is something put your spreadsheet on screen then any IGP will work, the OP was obviously looking for something better without breaking the bank.

Yep. I tried the onboard video on my computer for a few weeks and after trying the dirt2 demo on it and having to turn all details to low and still have an unplayable framerate I now have a 5770 in the box. The IG worked great on everything until I tried to play a game. I don't game that often but it was so bad I didn't want to rely on it.
