Not getting a full RAID stripe

I have a 40 GB, a 30 GB , and a 10 GB hard drive. I stripe them and only get 30 GBs. When they are not striped I get their full sizes. Why is this?
 
New to RAID, eh?

When you're striping drives, you can only have an array ( X * the capacity of the smallest drive in the array).
Where X = the # of drives in the array.

So your three drives will only show up as 30Gb striped because of the 10Gb drive. If you only used the 30 and the 40Gb drives, it would show up as 60Gb.

You may be looking for a JBOD or disk spanning if you want to use all the space. Otherwise the 40Gb drive will go partially unused.
 
Why are you trying to stripe such old drives anyway? Your drive latency is going to be soooo bad.

How do I clone my boot drive (the other 40) and put it on the 30?

Im going to stripe the 40s.
 
If the 40Gb isn't full, you could Ghost it onto the 30Gb drive and it'll resize the partition. As long as there isn't 30Gb+ of data on it.
 
If you've already created the stripes any data on teh drives is probably gone.
