Hey guys, I've got this P4 3.06ghz Northwood (512kb cache, 533mhz bus) sitting around, and I'm wondering whether it would be more worth it to build another system or to sell it. I've seen it sold online for about 729.(lol, yea, 3 online vendors sold it for that much. I'll give link tomorrow) it works completely fine, no scratches, nothing wrong with it except that it does not have a heatsink. You think I could pick up around 500-700 on ebay? . If not, what do you think I could get, max. Becuase 500-700 dollars could buy me a second decent computer (or save up for a conroe). Thanks for the help.

i highly doubt 500-700 for ur chip. I cant believe im seeing it going for 170 on ebay! :eek: :)
 
lol...there are fx-55's that go around that price if not a bit cheaper...
 
Maybe you saw the extreme edition. True Northwoods are fairly scarce these days, but nobody's demand could boost the selling price to the numbers you're quoting.

It *might* be worth building a new system with it ONLY if you have other spare parts laying around, or if you stick with integrated video.

The last thing you want to do is buy an AGP video card for the new system.

In all honesty, I think you'd be lucky to get $150 or more for the chip.
 
Well considering that its the only 533FSB Northwood to have HT, and maxes out some of the older platforms it does have some value. $700 is completly off the mark, but Ebay's market reseach tool says around $180-220 the few that I have come by consisitantly sell for $199 normally as a Buy it now in less than 24 hours.
 
Half of the processors that are 3.06 are mobile P4's anyway without HT. They are a pain to get working right in a desktop board.
 
actually all mobile p4's are prescotts and they all have HT
your talking about hte p4-m or p4 mobile

There are 2 mobile P4s, the "Mobile Intel Pentium 4-M" and "Mobile Intel Pentium 4". http://support.intel.com/support/processors/mobile/pentium4/index.htm I don't know what you mean by separating a "P4 Mobile" since that's not a product name.

All P4-M chips use a Northwood core.

Some Mobile P4 chips are Northwood and some are Prescott. See http://processorfinder.intel.com/sc...LL&MfgTech=ALL&step=ALL&cache=ALL&PkgType=ALL and http://www.intel.com/products/processor/mobilepentium4/index.htm. All Prescott Mobile P4s seem to have HT though.

Wow, C1 stepping SL6S5 3.06GHz CPUs are going for ~$175 shipped and D1 stepping SL6PG 3.06GHz CPUs are going for ~$190 shipped on ebay. You can buy a Pentium D 805 + a cheap motherboard for that price.
 
yea, I've got an 805 and an ECS board from fries for 129. Wow, hmm... so do you guys think it's worth it to sell it on ebay and build a new system? it sounds good, I could either wait for conroe or pick up an 805 now and a i965 board (like mid juneish). or should i take this, go find a 20 dollar motherboard, find some RAM, find a graphic card, and put a heatsink on it, and run it as a side system?
 
I've purchased 2 3.06/512/533 chips from a vendor in the past month. The first was $182. The 2nd was $148. Chip only. Some of the prices being fetched on Ebay makes you wonder if some people do any research before buying. These are great chips, still, but $250+ is a bit much for the best of 2003
