Northbridge heatsink

The gigabyte mobo I have has a heatsink on the northbridge that kind of wobbles around when you touch it but it reverts back into place after letting go. Is the heatsink on the northbridge supposed to be tight? This is the second gigabyte board I have that has the heatsink wobbly.

The board is a MA770T-UDP3

Also, is it normal for gigabyte boards to have insanely high northbridge temps. I remember the last board I had, the temps reached over 100 degrees.

I'm sure it is meant to be secured, see if you can tighten it? Would probably be the reason you have high NB temps...

Most northbridge or southbridge heatsinks do that since the push pins are only in two corners rather than all four corners.

Not only that, but some chipsets have no heatspreaders, so they have a tiny 1CM square, block in the middle, like a pivot.

my foxconn c51xem2aa has the same thing with the northbridge.... i finally rigged a really old cpu heatsink onto it and mounted a fan to blow air over it... that was the only thing i could think of at the time but i managed to knock the temps from 45C down to 28C

Might want to tighten that up or even remount it and add thermal grease. Juryrig a fan onto it if it's getting too hot.

Get spring screws, then use a backplate!?

Nope, push pins typically only have one setting.

Could I find those at any hardware store? I checked newegg and was unable to find them.

you are unlikely to find new ones short of getting a new northbridge heatsink....
if you don't want to mod the heatsink and willing to shovel the money....
i'd say this one looks like a winner....

otherwise get a 40mm fan or something near that size and mount onto heatsink....

superglue does work for securing..... but screws are better... also be mindful to have the fan blowing ONto the heatsink...
