The biggest difference is Intel located multiple temperature sensors into their C2D so a core temperature reading is always a reading from the hottest part of the chip no matter what type of application you're running.you cannot compare core2duo temps with any other processor temps. they run hotter. its normal

Temperatures from the Core chips are more honest than previous chip generations. The big numbers are scaring some people but there's really nothing to worry about.
I was running Orthos on my E6400 last week, reliably, at over 80C just to see if it was possible and there were no problems whatsoever.
As long as you're stable you really don't have to worry about what temperature your Core 2 Duo is running at.
