Normal Temps?

System idles at 37/38
7950GT 512kb on SLI, GPU1 idles at 45, GPU2 idles at 47

Are these temps normal for idling?

after 30 mins or so of counter-strike, the temps havent changed one degree.

Sounds right to me. Counter strike isn't exactly a graphically intensive game...

I personally think idle temps at 45 are a little toasty. Is your ambient cool?

What are your load temps? Are you logging the temps while you are playing CS?

logging temps while playing cs, medieval 2, battlefield 2, and age3. cpu never goes above 47, graphics never go above 48, system never goes above 38.

and i was thinking the same. it seems like all my temps are good except my cpu. it seems a little high to me considering i see others running in the 30s. ive tried reseating and reapplying thermal. nothing makes a difference there.

the case is a tj09 so the airflow is good and the room temperature is mid 70s.

use the search function, the 6600 is good up to mid 70C's. 85c is the max safe temp

thats good to know but im not interested in the max safe temp. im a little more curious why mine is idling at 45 while others idle a good 10-15 below this.

I have a E6600 on a Asus P5B-E in a Antec P-180. Its covered by a Scythe Infinity.

It runs between 44-48C all the time. I think the fan/heat-sink might not be installed properly.

I have a similar-ish problem.

I just keep the case side off, but now my system temp is 39 when the CPU is at 36!

WTF!

It may be an airfloiw problem - try to take the case side off.

you cannot compare core2duo temps with any other processor temps. they run hotter. its normal

It's not that the Core 2 Duo runs hotter. The biggest difference is Intel located multiple temperature sensors into their C2D so a core temperature reading is always a reading from the hottest part of the chip no matter what type of application you're running.

Temperatures from the Core chips are more honest than previous chip generations. The big numbers are scaring some people but there's really nothing to worry about.

I was running Orthos on my E6400 last week, reliably, at over 80C just to see if it was possible and there were no problems whatsoever.
As long as you're stable you really don't have to worry about what temperature your Core 2 Duo is running at.

80 C is a bit too hot for me... I think I will stick to my current clocks for now.
