i recently purchased and assembled the following:

q6600
dfi p35-t2rs
9800gx2
4gb gskill pc6400
corsaird 620hx

since i just got it ive only installed the games i play most - cs 1.6 and wow. while playing these games i've had a large amount of lockups and a couple of blue screens. also, i went to bios and tried to set the multiplier to x9 and when i booted windows up and checked it with cpu-z i still had stock settings. i've got a zerotherm nirvana hsf and i'd like to take advantage of it :)

thanks for any help in advance

- What do these BSODs say? Like what's the error code?
- When do the lockups and BSODs occur?
- What are your temperatures?
- Download Memtest+ V.170, unzip it, burn the ISO file to a CD, and then boot from it, just like you would do with the XP install CD. Let Memtest+ run for at least three hours on each stick of RAM separately. If you start seeing errors, than your RAM is bad.

dont know what the bsods say. they only occur while playing the 2 games. temps are under 50c my hsf doesnt appear to be spinning as fast as it could tho its turned up all the way by the hand speed t

You need to get the error codes when the BSODs occur.

To OC, you need to raise the FSB, not the multiplier. Read the OC'ing guide in the OC'ing subforums here.

i tried raising both, couldnt post, so i tried just one and then the other and still niether showed up. what number am i looking for exactly during the bsod? i dont get them as often as the lockups. in fact not very often at all. sometimes, when counterstrike will lock up i can still here people in vent talking and when i alt tab out it locks up the whole computer

If the BSOD's flash by the screen and you want to read them. Right mouse click My Computer > Advanced Tab > Settings Button for System and Recovery > Uncheck "Automatically Restart", Okay > Apply > Okay Done!

im still not sure what to check for but ill write down all the numbers i see.

thanks for everyones help so far

ok i have an idea what it might be. i was playing wow earlier and it froze. i put my hand on my video card and it was steaming hot. went to gpu-z and its reading it just under 70c and fan speed is only at 45%. how can i adjust the fan speed? i have riva tuner but im not sure how to adjust it.

also, i checked core temp instead of cpu z and i see my multiplier/fsb settings there but not in cpu-z. so i guess thats just a problem with cpu-z?

im almost positive my viedo card overheating is the cause of the lockups cuz it only crashes during gaming

got it to bsod by flying real high in wow and looked down at the ground for a like 20 minutes...

now how do i find out what it means?

ok, thanks to colinstua and tiraides, i found out it was my audio drivers(realtek). i dont know if it was a problem with windows or with nvidia. i downloaded new realtek drivers and i havent had any blue screens or game crashes, yet. hopefully this helps if someone else comes across the same problem
