Hey guys at [H], I had recently installed my TR HR-03 GT on my 8800 GTS 512MB OC, and am having some issues with the VRAM sinks. Two of them are refusing to stick on the memory for long term at any cost, so I'm wondering what can I do to fix that? Thanks!

You can scrape the thermal tape off and get replacement thermal tape, or you can buy the iandh sinks from Petra's for it to replace them, or you can get the D-Tek Unisink to replace them.

Before doing that, make sure to clean the places where the sinks are falling off really well and try again.

clean the gunk and adhesive off the sink and the memory chips, spotless. Lighter fluid works ok, acetone too. Its a good time to rub the sink on some sandpaper to ensure it is flat, many are very poorly made. If properly lapped and test fitted with a tiny dot of thermal compound they will almost stick by themselves due to the vacume create by a good fit/footprint.

Put a tiny dab of your favorite thermal paste on the middle of the memory chip and set the sink on it. Move the sink around to spread out the paste and check the "footprint". Adust the amount of paste if needed.

Holding the sink firmly down on the memory chip with a finger or other tool, take a toothpick and get a small ball of adhesive on the end. Silicon RTV works well and is easily removed. Super glue will do the trick too.

On each end corner where the ramsink touches the memory chip, touch the ball of adhesive to the bottom of the ramsink and swipe downwards towards the board smearing a little adhesive from the bottom edge of the ramsink down the side of the memory chip. If using RTV silicon go all the way to the board. Do each corner you can get to. less is more, care and patience is the key. It will never fall off if you give it time to dry properly but can easily be removed later. The RTV will just peel right off, the super glue you have to work the point of an exacto knive into the seam between the sink and the chip and it will pop off. I use the RTV as it will peel completely off the sink and the memory chip and one would never know it was ever there.

clean the ram real good with alcohol and use a thermal paste.. i used arctic silver and works great for me.
