i got this warning @ BIOS screen "Warning: NON MATCHING MP PROCESSOR"

WTF IS THIS? should i be concerned?

PING!! It's a really annoying message every type i boot my computer, have to press F1 to continue

You have a dual MP board with dual MPs in it? If so, sounds like they aren't a matched pair, and possibly SMP has been turned off because of it.

yah it's a dual MP mob (ASUS K8N-DL) WITH 2x 242 opterons

pardon my ignorance, what is SMP? and How do i disable it?

Symetrical MultiProcessing. You can turn it off very easily. Just remove one of your processors. SMP is the whole point of a dual core or dual cpu rig.

well i dont want to remove one of my processor.. i want them running!

Hmm... does this mean that you *can* run different opterons in SMP configurations? mix-n-match.

I was under the assumption that the fore-mentioned MP was, as in Athlon MP, but if the OP has Opterons, what's MP stand for?

Depends on the board, and exactly what the diferences are.
Different steppings aren't normally a problem.
Mixing revisions is a bit dicey. You can have mix C0 and CG on a lot of boards, but not B3 and CG or CG and E*. You really need to consult the motherboard's documentation to see what is and isn't compatible.

Yea different weeks with the same process and it should be ok, but mixing different major revision would be a problem

my specs for the 2x opterons

#1 Opteron 242 1.6 ghz
Socket 940
OSA242CEP5AU
Stepping: CG

#2 Opteron 242 1.6 ghz
Socket 940
OSA242CEP5AL
Stepping: C0

btw, I have ASUS K8N-DL mobo

any help would be greatly appreciated

C0 and CG revisions are fairly close, some boards support mixnig them some don't.
Update to the latest BIOS from Asus, put the C0 core in CPU0 and hope.
If that doesn't work, buy another CG revision 242.

the latest BIOS doesnt support it yet. I'm on the phone with ASUS Technical support and they're considering fixing it on the next BIOS update
